Loans Available For War Veterans wbrld War TT veterans are today in the last year in which they may apply for GT home, farm or business loans, B. T. Stott, Officer-in-Charge of the South Bend V. A. Office said today. Congress has set July 25 1960, as the cut-off date in the postwar program tha has seen nearly five million World War II veterans take advantage of the GI Bill loan provisions since June 22, 1914. Stott pointed out that the law allows an additional year, or until July 25, 1961, for the processing and actual closing of loans. These dates do not pertain to Korean veterans who have until January 31, 1965, to make loan applications. If a World War II veteran also served in the Korean conflict he has until the 1965 date. Under the GI loan program, qualified World War II veterans are offered the opportunity to obtain VA guaranteed or insured loans to purchase, build or improve a home; buy a, farm or farm supplies; and buy or expand a business. Nationwide. 35 per cent of eligible World War II veterans have taken advantage of the loan program? While' tfte Indianapolis Regional Office does not break down its loan programs by wars, Mr. Stqtt, estimated that on the national basis some 125,000 veterans in Indiana have received home, farm or business loans. Today, many of these children have had precious months, even years, [ added to their lives, thanks to dramatic research discoveries. • ■ Until science finds the means to save them, however, they live on borrowed time. Tha American Cancer Society’s research program includes $1,500,000 annually for research related 1o leukemia.
