Mbtrnridt ■ km «aniimflmra«wiam|| ” LIFELINES | ■ The New Year is like an undiscovered country. We H a cannot see whether there are mountains, deserts or fertile R plains. Thick mists cut off our vision. We do not know jg ■ what the future has in store for us. Th© New Year, then, brings to us a sense nf Mystery. U ■ We have been bom in a world of Mystery—a world where H everything seems possible, where Santa climbs down the R | chimneys and Jacks can climb bean stalks and kill giants. ■ ■ Mystery remains with us. The beginning of a New' Year is also a serious time. It J is a time for sober thought, not for indulgence and sin. It is well for us to take an inventory of the soul’s stock and Life; it is good for us to check over the way which we have | come. Also the New Year is a glorious time. It quickens th* j pulse and makes the heart throb with joy and hope. The only way that the heart can be changed is by ad- . milling the Saviour. A new humanity can come forth only a© human hearts bow in allegiance before Him. It ts just thi* Ito which we should give sober thoughts at this time. BY THE MINISTERS OF WALKERTON
