The proposed rationing of sugar has already been re-1 fleeted in the demand for honey; with the result that much of the] 1941 crop has been marketed. Following the last war when i honey brought premium prices as a result of a similar shortage of sugar, prices slumped materially* and in recent years quantity sales of honey ha\e brought less than! ten cents a pound. WITH OUR BOYS IN THE ARM!
Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas ! Hello Everyone: Just finished reading the । Walkerton Independent. I get it I every Monday and am sure glad to | read it. 1 want to thank you for I it. I can get more news and things out of the paper than is pos- : sible to get from letters. I look I forward every Monday to getting ; it and I’ll bet every boy from home does also. I received my New Testament from the Chamber of Commerce, and it certainly is grand! Couldn’t have .gotten a better gift. I want to thank all the members of the Chamber of Commerce. Wish you all success throughout the coming years! Well, I might as well say something about this field. It was started sometime' in June and now it is almost completed. They have a few hangars to finish and also odds and ends. If grass ever gets started, the place here will look fairly nice. This field is a school for airplane mechanics, and this month the first class graduates. These men will move out and plenty more will take their places. Classes are going day and night, trying to put as many men through as possible. I’d say there were about 40,000 men here. That’s just a guess, you know. 1 am one of the squadron personnel here, so have a slim chance of going to school. That’s about all I can say about the field. The weather here i> rather rice. It snowed once, but melted in a day. There has been a week or more of what you call cold weather but all in all, it's rather nice. If the wind does blow or it rains, it always goes to the extreme. The people here say, "Never has done that for a good many years.” Got to take it as it comes, though. 1 feel fine and think the Air Corps is a swell place. Hope । everyone is o. k. and are making ! the best of it. My address is 1 still the same, but one never knows when he may move. So long. Joe Seitz Camp Roberts, Calif. Btry Al6B F. A. Dear folks: I want to thank you for your । letters. We are having swell weather down here. I have very important news to tell you tonight. I have everything packed. Order- came dow n at 2:9<i this afternoon. I exp<cted to be in permanent position when I wrote you tl at can! the other day. Baiteie “A" and ‘B" of the 168th F. A. are the <>nly ones that havo marching oid< i s in Camp Rolerts. So to- ( morrow morning 1 say good-bye t> Camp Rolmtis. Write me at the same aii<'.!« - until I send you a new one. I .eon McKe-son Feb. S. 1942 Dear Steele Family: Well I guess it's about time I am dropping you folks a line. You sure have been doing your part in correspondence. I enjoyed your I clippings and jokes very much. I got some unexpected letters and am getting a little lM*hind on my writing, but don’t let that slop you from writing. Well I got my first move yesterday. 1 was in blue training just about two weeks and a half, no longer than necessary. The apprentice seamen have more training but they moled us rated men [on construction Battalion across the Bay to Portsmouth, Va. They are building a new training station here. Last Rummer in July it was all cow pasture so you can imagine what we have here. Some new barracks, but it is just now under construction. We don't have anything to do with the building of it; we are just staying here iMwause it's empty. The Army and Navy are all together. Last night I had quite a surprise. I was in the m -« hall eating, gawking around as usual and spied John We.-"IeK fiioi.
I North Liberty. He lives in the : barracks right beside me, about ; 100 feet awawy. We had quite a ■ : visit. e will probably pitch a 'few together. There is about 500 • ’men here on this new base, both ■ army and navy. I I haven't found out yet whether • I get liberty tonight of not. Part : of us will and part won’t. If I ; do we will probaly organize and ■ “pitch" a little. This place is certainly' going to Im- nice. Here : we have big steel lockers, etc. We , are right by the Navy ship yards. .We are here indefintely. The nearest w-e could find out we will • be here about a month. There I were 291 men that came over on ; the old tub. They give us just enough work tc Keep us busy. Not busy, I mean out of mischief. Our ; working hours are 8 to 11 and 1 I to 3. Some hours, eh ' Since we are here lights go out at 10 p. m. and on at 0 a. m„ We live like men should now. Read letter Dad, got from me, then you have it more in detail. I can’t think of much more to write and anyway I have to get cleaned up for it’s 3:30 p. m. ami if I get liberty I want to take off about 4 p. m. Wrie soon and I will do likewise. Sincerely, Chuck Heim. Rufi Family Gets Letter From London (This is the second letter to be published from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Prive, of London, written lan. 11. to Mr. and Mrs. Willis Ruff, cousins, at Walkerton.— Editor) Glen Rosa Rech Roof Estate Main London, Pa. My dear Laura, Willis and family: Many, many thanks for your most welcome letter. You are just dear good people. God bless you aii. But still I suppose we must not grumble as long as we w in 1 the war. What a glorious day that will be. We are just going to listen to the hymn singing. I do like that, so does Harry. We both join ’ in singing. All is quiet once again and •miT again we are sparred’ Thanks Im- to G(ml. Poor old Harry 1 gets very nervous.
