Dinner was served at 6:30, followed by bridge. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sherwood left Monday for a trip through the south and west and will later join 1 their son, Robert Sherwood, in Hollywood, Calif. Mrs. Nelson Walz, who was off duty several days on account of illness, has returned to the hospital Os the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant where she is a nurse. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cover were guests Sunday of Mrs. Agnes Wilcox, North Liberty. The party honored Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilcox, who were recently married. Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Kuhn spent J Wednesday in Marion. Ind., where ■ Rev. Kuhn attended a meting of । the Board of Control of the former Methodist Protestant Camp Ground ‘ Association. Clyde Chapman of the Walkerton Lumber A Coal Co., received a Hamilton wrist watch last week, I presented to him by the JohnsManville Company, for excellency in salesmanship. Mrs. A. F. Sanders entertained Wednesday evening with a birth- : day dinner honoring Dr. Sanders. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. jC. Waddell, Mr. and Mrs. Chai les Worrell and Mrs. Laura Dowell. Mrs. Charles Worrell entertained a group of friends at a one o’clock j luncheon Monday in her home. The guests included Mrs. W. C. Waddell, Mrs. Albion Swank, Mrs. ■John Henry, Mrs. A. F. Sanders, Mrs. Everett Henry, Mrs. T. F. Radmacher. Mrs. Laura Dowell and Mrs. W. J. Leßoy. Mrs. Vern Johnson, Mrs. Russell Cripe and Miss Joan Johnson, were in Colon, Mich., Sunday, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. i Carl Beall. Mrs. Sarah Johnson, i who had been visiting here for several weeks, returned to Colon with them. The Philathea class met for luncheon today at one o’clock in the home of Mrs. Sam Nusbaum, with I Mrs. Roy Gindelberger assisting. The luncheon Avas followed by a 1 business meeting, presided over by I Mrs. Hoyt Masterman. During | the social hour Mrs. John F. Spen|cer read and played Joyce Kilmer's famous poem, ‘‘Trees.” Games and contests were also enjoyed. BARBER PICNIC I The Barlier Sunday School party j was held today at the home of Mrs. Arbie Reid near Tyner. A j pot-luck dinner and valentine exchange were enjoyed. Mrs. Ethel j Warner, of Niles, Mich., is secre-itary-treasurer of the group.
Duane Blockson, who has been a patient in St. Joseph hospital, South Rend, for several months, underwent a serious operation on his left leg Wednesday, to correct the ball and socket joint at his hip. ; A blood transfusion was necsesary following the operation. • Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Steele, Harold Tremblay aifd Mr. ami M.s. , A. 1.. Todd, all of Detroit, Mich., spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ake. Mrs. Steele and Mr. Tremblay remained for the Week in the Ake home. Miss Very! Trost entertained a group of young people Tuesday evening with a valentine party in her home. The guests were: Margaret Ann Leßoy, Patricia Penick, Carroll Jo Kerchaert, Ina Belle I Rensberger, Rosemary Rearick, I Marvin Bouse, Jack Kline, Roy i Paul Reeder, David Mellin and । Donald Lida. Games were fol- | lowed by refreshments served by the hostess and her mother, Mrs. Pearl Trost. Mrs. Amos Bierly entertained members of the Friendship Class of the Methodist Sunday School in her home Wednesday evening. About twenty-five were present. After the business meeting, contests were enjoyed with prizes going to Mrs. Garland Lawrence, Mrs.'Sam Frame and Mrs. Virginia W’aldron. Delicious refreshments were served. The assisting hostesses were Mrs. Clarence Hopper. Mrs. Modest Burch and Mrs. Geo. Helfer. “Welcome” Party Saturday, Feb. 21 A large committee of local persons, representing various organizations, will handle arrangements for the "Welcome to Walkerton” party. While the recreation program in U. S. (). clubs is designed primarily for women, Miss Mary Loughran, U. S. 0. club director, states that party programs and informal social affairs are open to men and women in Walkerton and vicinity. Special events will include square and circle dancing. The first Walkerton U. S. O. club party honoring the new arrivals at the Walkerton Dormitories and Defense Houses, is scheduled to take place in the Walkerton high school gymnasium on Saturday evening, Feb. 21, at 8:00 o’clock. Register Monday Don’t forget next Monday, youse guys what's between 20 and 45 years, to register for your Uncle Samuel’s address book. He wants to know how to get in touch with you, just in case the 21’s to 28’s j can’t handle the job alone.
