SCIENCE AND RELIGION We hear a lot nowadays about science and religion being at loggerheads. Roger Babson tells about a visit of Chas. P. Steinmetz, that w'onderful wizard of electric science, who was reteognized by the General Electric Company and^many other great organiza^ons grf the greatest sciqtWi^of thhf centary. While Mr. Babson was talking’ over prospective future intuitions in connection with radio, aeronautics, power transmission, etc., asked, “What line of rer search will see the greatest development in the next fifty years?” After careful thought Steinmetz replied, “Mr. Babson, I think the greatest discovery will be made along spiritual lines. Here is a force which history clearly teaches has been the greatest power in the development of men and nations. Some day people will realize that material things do not bring happiness and are of little use in making men and women creative and powerful. Then the scientist of the world will turn their laboratories over to the study of God and prayer and spiritual forces which as yet have hardly been guessed at. When that day counts the world will see more advancement in one generation than it has seen in the past four.” LARGE homes passing One of the marked changes in modern life is the passing of the large homes and dwellings, and in their place the demand for the small bungalow or the apartment house. Even in a rural town this change is becoming apparent. The bystander wonders if the old home life is getting out of date. Families are becoming smaller and do not need so much house room. Automobiles are keeping the people more out of doors. Cases and restaurants are increasing in number and quality. The necessity for a home seems to be diminishing. A place to do a little light housekeeping and to sleep meets all present day needs. This may make for better and happier life Ibut we doubt it. The next generation of children will knownothing of the pleasure their fathers and mothers had in the large, old-fashioned homes, and will lose the helpful influence of close familyties that existed in them. THE BIG MAN The laws of chance and of nature show- in a preponderant majority of cases that the man who does big things in life is the man who thinks big, ambitious thoughts, has great confidence and gre.at energy to keep going, he s the man who doesn’t fall for every- diversion, and who doesn’t take advantage of every excuse to loiter, but works hard ami steadily during working hours and plays hard, rests deeply and sleeps soundly and enjoys good health of a clean body ami mind such a man can not fail. Overeating was the original sin. and Eve started it; she ate both herself and Adam out of house and home. SHILOH Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Lotz are visit- , ing the Fred Lotz home, of Wilkinsjburgh, Pa.
