A New Year's smoker-feed meeting will be held by the Walkerton post American Legion in their hall over the Gus Reiss store on Friday night, Jan. 1. This is the first regu-i lar meeting of the year at which time officers will be elected. An urgent invitation is extended to all world war veterans, whether Legion j members or not. to attend this good felTowship meeting Friday night. Caroline Smith won first prize of , $2.00. and Harold Vermillion, second, SI.OO, in the Community club poster contest conducted among the : local high school students, under the direction of Miss Frances Venen art instructor. Honorable mention was given Byron Capes and Edna Masterman. Others submitting posters were: Marjorie Holser, Opal Lawrence, Wilma Casey, Helen Fults and Doris Bierley. Miss Venen. Mrs. W. A. Enci.ey and Mrs. C. M. Finch were the judges. The many friends of Rev. Charles David Darling, pastor of the Walker- i ton Presbyterian church at the time I of its building, about twenty years | ago, were shocked to learn of his ! death, which occurred in Waterloo, j lowia, Dec. 16, of heifYt failure. His I death was sudden, following an I afternoon visit among his parish- j ioners. The sad news reached here : in time for an impressive memorial service which was held in the local j Presbyterian church on Sunday, Dec. ; , 20, at the same hour of the funeral i service in Waterloo. Besides his ! widow, Mrs. Gertrude Darling, he leaves two sons and a daughter, be- j sides two adopted daughters.
