CORRESPONDENCE MUDDY STREET As the old year has gone by ana the new year has come in, then write it in your heart that every day is the best day of the year. We wonder what the weather prophets think of the open wintev now. We infer that it is a close shave and this street is quite bumpy now. Some people complain of the low price of corn. In order to raise the price eat more mush and more johnny cake and hominy. It will keep you warm and make you fat. Perhaps Pumpkin Center will turn ' over a new leaf this year and scribe every week and wear the rust off her pen. We think the Yellow Bank scribe will have to pull his telescope in. Several families of Mr. and Mre. Ranstead’s neighbors came in to surprise them last Saturday night in honor of Mrs. Ranstead’s birthday. Oysters were served. The threshing company had an all day settlement meeting at Claude Ellery’* last Thursday. Elizabeth Wright of North Manchester is the guest of Mrs. Helena Tinkey. Mrs. Ed Wharton had the misfortune to fall from her back steps last Monday morning and break her leg just above the ankle. Albert Crilow has returned from a visit with his parents in Ohio. Mary Wharton and friend from South Bend miraculously escaped । what might have been a serious accident last Saturday night when the I Ford coupe in which they were riding skidded on the ice on the grade .near Sam Bortons and turned over .on the top into the creek. The <?Sr being a coupe is what saved them from being crushed to death. The .occupants escaped with minor scratches and bruises. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rickey of South Bend were New Year's visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rickey. Mrs. Helena Tinkey suffered a severe nervous spell this week. Arthur Floran narrowly escaped an accident when his jacket caught in the motor while baling hay at Lannon Foote's last Friday. Presence of 'mind spared him. His clothing was J badly torn. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kurzhals and daughter Edna of South Bend were New Year’s visitors at the Cha.*. Schradef home. Albert Barnhart and j Wm. Sanners of South Bend visited ’ there Monday.
