Mrs. Silver Chaney and Miss Leach of Sullivan, Ind., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Carter. Mrs. Carter is the daughter of Mrs. Chaney. The supper given by the U. B. Ladies’ Aid in the basement of the church Wednesday evening of last week was well patronized, for which the ladies feel grateful. July 4th will be observed at Koontz lake Monday, July 5. with dancing and cabaret music at Smith’s pavilion, games and amusements, and fireworks in the evening. The Ladies’ Aid society of the U. B. church will hold a pastry sale in the vacant corner room across from the Independent office Saturday, July 3. Home baked pies, cakes, cottage cheese, etc., will be sold. The Walkerton Pleasure Club was entertained bv Mr. and Mrs. Fallis Rees at their country home on tne banks of the Kankakee one evening recently. Refreshments were served and a lino time was enjoyed with music and other social features. Frank handed us a ticket of admission to the republican national convention, which comes a little late but will serve as a souvenir in the years to come. Frank was a sergeant-at-arms in the convention and was looking around for some of his Walkerton friends during the convention, as he was in a position to pass a few of them into the big show.
