MORE MARSH FIRES. Marshes on the Flack and Swartz Farms Burn The marsh on Peter Swartz's farm, north of town and north of the 0.1. & S. track, caught fire Thursday night of last week and wae destroyed, there be ing about three and one-half acres in the piece A part of the marsh was covered with huckleberry bushes all of which were ruined. The Flack marsh, north of Mr Swartz's place, which had been partly ■ burned a few nights previous broke out in flames again Friday morning and the second fire completely destroyed the marsh, including the Vincent and Rinehart marshes, the burned area covering about 25 acres. A large number of people were on hand to fight the fire but all efforts t save the marshes were futile, as the Are traveled with such fury through the dry muck and bushes as to defy all obstacles in its pathway. These marshes were covered with huckleberry bushes which produced berries of a One quality and the loss to the owners is considerable. For awhile John C Flack's barn and straw stack were in danger from flung sparks, but with the help of Leßoy'e sprinkling wagon, which wae hurried out to the scene, plenty of water wae provided and by the continuous applies tion of water to the barn roof and straw stack the imperiled property was saved. Accident to C. P. Drummond and Party. The speech of Hon. Charles P. Drummond, which was billed for this place Thursday evening of last week, had to be cancelled owing to an automobile accident to Mr Drummond and hie party between 6 and 7 o’clock after they were a short distance from South Bend on their way to Walkerton. The automo bile wae overturned in the accident and the occupants were badly shaken up but nobody received serious injuries An automobile wae summoned from South Bend and the party returned to the city, it then being too late for Mr. Drum mond to meet hie engagement here Would Mortgage the Farm.
