By the way, some fellows will be left. The village election will take place April 19. To incorporate or not to incorporate, that is the question. From each weather bureau station the appearance of the first robin in spring must be reported by telegraph to the Washington office. The movements of no other bird or animal are noticed. 1. G. Walker, editor in chief of the Chattanooga Times, declines to accept the office of commissioner of public works, to which he has been elected. He considers that his duties as editor bar him from holding office in any department he might be called upon to criticise. There is talk of organizing a new bank at Elkhart. Theodore Wentz, a wealthy banker of Fostoria and Canal Dover, Ohio, is the promoter of the enterprise. The bank will be organized under state banking laws and it is planned to have it in operation by July 15. Several prominent business men have been interested in the scheme and it is believed that no trouble will be had in securing the necessary capital. Charles Hoofnagle, late of South Bend, is now located in the Dougherty room next door to A. T. Kale’s shop, and has a full equipment for doing all kinds of wood work, such as carriage and wagon repairing, mending furniture and making new work in the wood line. He will also clean and repair gasoline stoves and sewing machines. Mr. Hoofnagle was employed at the Studebaker works in South Bend for several years and is a mechanic of experience. William H. Crane, the comedian, visited the United States Court recently and went away smiling. While he was there a young lawyer was arguing a case involving some Indian claims. He declared that the red men interested were “very old and very poor,” adding “they will average fully sixty years of age.” Mr. Crane says he noticed the justices nudge each other at this vealy statement. “In fact,” he said later, “I felt like doing a little nudging myself. I’m fifty-nine, you know, and mighty near the same class with the Indians.” Wakeful Children. For a long time the two year old child of Mr. P. L. McPherson, 59 N.
