I hive learned by dear experience, lor I have lot much by the ellccta of worms in my timber, and have found when timber may be cut and hue no worm?, or povt!er-po?t, as it is railed. Cut timber Irom the middle oi September to the middle of December, and you cannot get a worm into it. October and Novein be r are perhaps the best months, and u;e to avoid the

worms. You cut from Marth to Jane, and you cannot save the timLer fiorn worms or borers. W henever vou see an ox bow with the bark tight, there are no worms, no powder-post, and you cannot ecpirate it from the wood, and what is true in one kind is true in all kinds of t'inbcr, and every kind Ins it peculiar kind of worm. I have found them alive and at work in white oak ppokes that I knew had bcn in mv garret over twelve years, ard they were tuuth larger than at first they do not top in the gap; but continue irto the solid part. I do not think of buying timber unless it is cut in the time above alluded to. kI hive wondered that there has not been more said on this subject as it is one of reat importance even lor firewood, and opeciall for (hip-building, &c. In Kentucky, near Lexington and Frankfort, some vineyards have escaped, while oth ers have sufiVred from this disease. These remarks apply, of course. to the Catawba cripe, with which nearly ill our vineyards are plant - cd. The Deleware, Norton, Con cord, and some other experimental varieties, hive showed but little, if any rot. noble animal. He will understand heir meaning; and they will affect lis character. A horse so treated, will be a pleasant beast to handle, le 'vi II keep and fatten better, will be in be'ter health, and will lo more work than one managed differently. This should be done mm the animal s earliest vears, ut even it neglected while voung, h horse may thus be taught to ove his owner. Rpularity and system. This will show itself in de termining the ime and amount of feeding and of .vorking. Nearly all the diseases o which the horse is subject, come Vorn irregularity in these respects. If he is under-led and overworked, he tone of his system will become relaxed, and disease be likely to set in. So it he is over-fed, and has deficient or irregular exercise, he will co itract another set of diseases. The man who is. regular and ysternatic in his own habits of liv ing, is nio.4 likelv to enjoy health and long life, while he who indul ges in excesses of any kind is sure to suffer from frequent and violent attac's of illness, and end his days prematurely. It is hardly less so with man s favorite animal, the horse. Change of diet, cleanliness, and good shelter should not be overlooked. For the horse running at large, as in the wild state, the diet which nature gives him is allsufficient, but for one confined, stabled, and worked, much attention should be given to his food. Hay and oats are doubtless the best lood, all things considered, but even thee should have an oc casional variation. Carrots, potatoes, bran, fresh cut grass, should be given him in their place and time. During Summer it seems only simple justice that, when practicable, the horse should Le treated for a time to that food which is most natural to him fresh grass. If every st2bled, hard working horse coulu have a summer vacation of several weeks in a pasture, it would soften his dry and cr icked hoofs, correct his digestion, improve his wind, his skin, and indeed renovate his entire system. But where this indulgence can not be enjoyed, a hors should have frequent messes of loosening food, such as roots, bran mashes with cut straw, fresh grass, etc. As to cleanliness both good looks and health demand this. A horse well curried will make a peck ol oats go much further than one un groomed.
