Much depends on the wheat jrettinjr well started in the fall, ami we have observed for several years, that wheat sown before the middle of September eloes a preat ileal better than if sown much later. A HEAVY LOSS. Mr. Pardon Sherman, one of our subscriber? living on Bear Creek, met with a heavy loss a few days ago. His entire hay crop, about five ton?, was stacked in the mead ow at a short distance from his house. During the night it was 5Ct on tire ami entirely consumed. It is impossible to buy hay at any price, and Mr. Sherman is compelled to sell almost all his fdock, and will in this way sustain an additional sacrifice. Mr. S. was not aware that he hid an merny in the world, but the burning was obviously by design.

In tlie noon-day of life while the heart was filled with bright hope3 of the future while the race was but half run, anJ while the prospect of lengthened days spread its delusive charm, the destroyer came, and life fled at his approach. The silver cord was loosed, the golden bowl was broken, the pitcher was broken at the fountain, and the wheel broken at the cistern. As we stand at the crave of a loved friend, strange innges of desolation pas before us. Broker: friendship?, blighted h"pe?, and unspoken word of love pl.iy like spectral sight before us, and bow the head with anguish so deep that the tongue refu?? to utter it. We strive to realize the full import of the truth t'iat our friend h pone to tint Imd whence no tr.ircller returns, but fancy, thatche.it while it, pleases u?, suggests that we &hall meet again, as in other days, in the social circle in the busy walks of life, in the early hours of the morning, and amid the stillness of the departing day. The deceased was a rative of Terry County Ohio, where he studied Medicine, and afterwards graduated at the Medical School in Columbus, O. In the year 16Ö0, he began the practice of his profession, at Carrol, in Fairfield Co., where he continued a year or two, and then removed to New Lexington, the County seat of Terry Co. In 1 he removed to this place. In the practice of his profession here, he soon rose to emi nence; he sought to be in the foremost ranks. Not content merely because Iiis profession yielded him a competence, he was prompted by that noble ambition that digd.iins an inferior position, and rushes to gain the foremost place. In his intercourse with his brother physicians he had much of professional etiquette. Courteous, polite, and gentlemanly in Iiis manner, he was a model worthy the imitation of all. One great element in his success and popularity as a phy sician was the constant sympathy he showed for those to whom lie ministered: their wants and wi.-hes became his they had from him only the words of cheering encouragement, and saw nothing but a countenance beaming Till hop?. Mmj a family in our midst, at whose bedside he has watched, w ill long remember his kind attentions with feelings of gratitude.
