OIIITI'ARV. Pled, at his re idence in Winchester, Indiana, of Tyihoid Fever, on Monday evening, October 5th, lrf.3,at7 1-2 o'clock, Dr. Abnry F. Teal; njred thirty nine years. Thus one Ly one we are paäaing away, and
there U none abiding. In tlie noon-day of life while the heart was filled with bright hope3 of the future while the race was but half run, anJ while the prospect of lengthened days spread its delusive charm, the destroyer came, and life fled at his approach. The silver cord was loosed, the golden bowl was broken, the pitcher was broken at the fountain, and the wheel broken at the cistern. As we stand at the crave of a loved friend, strange innges of desolation pas before us. Broker: friendship?, blighted h"pe?, and unspoken word of love pl.iy like spectral sight before us, and bow the head with anguish so deep that the tongue refu?? to utter it. We strive to realize the full import of the truth t'iat our friend h pone to tint Imd whence no tr.ircller returns, but fancy, thatche.it while it, pleases u?, suggests that we &hall meet again, as in other days, in the social circle in the busy walks of life, in the early hours of the morning, and amid the stillness of the departing day. The deceased was a rative of Terry County Ohio, where he studied Medicine, and afterwards graduated at the Medical School in Columbus, O. In the year 16Ö0, he began the practice of his profession, at Carrol, in Fairfield Co., where he continued a year or two, and then removed to New Lexington, the County seat of Terry Co. In 1 he removed to this place. In the practice of his profession here, he soon rose to emi nence; he sought to be in the foremost ranks. Not content merely because Iiis profession yielded him a competence, he was prompted by that noble ambition that digd.iins an inferior position, and rushes to gain the foremost place. In his intercourse with his brother physicians he had much of professional etiquette. Courteous, polite, and gentlemanly in Iiis manner, he was a model worthy the imitation of all. One great element in his success and popularity as a phy sician was the constant sympathy he showed for those to whom lie ministered: their wants and wi.-hes became his they had from him only the words of cheering encouragement, and saw nothing but a countenance beaming Till hop?. Mmj a family in our midst, at whose bedside he has watched, w ill long remember his kind attentions with feelings of gratitude. His constitution, not naturally rohust.was miable to bear the exposures and fatigues incident to his extensive practice, and yet so urgent were the demands of his friend, th'tbut little rest was allowed to him. In the ni"üt!i of June last, in company with several of ur rhjsVmr. and citizens, he wrnt to Vicksburg in response to a call made at that time W medical and surgical a;d fur our Army. f?urh a trip, and at that season of the year, was a heavy drain on his feeble constitution. When his lat illncs tiCnn nf ither he nor tion Sri ie rt.ceivrtl nll t! ti.Rt kind frionJä anJ skillf ie attentions lful physicians could bestow. Hut all in vain ; from day to day, as sorrowing friends gathered f round Iii- bt dside, they watched with alarm the silent uid steady progress of the invidious disease that was bearing its victim to the tomb. At time? during his illness his mind would wander : but, as could bo pathered from h's i'icohennt words, in these beclouded m anient. 4 !vs thoughts went back to the home of hU youth, and to the f.ien.N who then gathered around his pathway in the mirning of life. i he flower tint he fo tastefully an 1 enrofully cultivated, and that pave ' .:it i.t.:.l attraction to his home, will now min l.i f., -- terinp hand. Henceforth they will be left to grow and h'o un ahne, and as from year to year their fading leaves shall fall to mingle again" with earth, it will forcibly remind u of him who in other days reared them with such rc lined and delicate care. The tran sient flower, stricken by the untimely frost, is the lilting emblem of his life. A gem has dropped away from love's Fhininx circle , lost to earth, but not lost forever. For "Teyond this vale of tears, There is a world above, Un measured by the flight of years, And all that world is love." Funeral services were held at 1. is late resilence on Tuesday evening, by Ke-v. Mr. Iihodes; and on the next morning his numerous relatives and friends, top ther with a large concourse of citizens, attended his remain to the depot, whence they w re t aken to Terry Co. Ohio for interment. His relatives have our fympathies in their bereavement. IL . Tin: :i:ni:si:i: fakii:ii. The October number of the Genesee Fanner is received.
