It transpires that a son ot Brown had shot a valu:iblc(?)dogofBolir.cyer'5,and that the latter had severely kicked a young son of Brown for pulling the bell handle in a sort of holiday spree being indulged in by the young persons ol the neighborhood, the two families being near neighbors. Oil Saturday morning the two men met on the street, where, after some altercation in reference to said trricvances, Brown drew a pistol and shot Boimeyer in the front of the neck, the ball passing up into the brain and causing his immediate death. Brown walked down to hi etore, was soon arrested and lodg- j ed in jail. A mob collected and j made attempts to take the prisoner from jail to hang him. This! was prevented by the police. But the attack was renewed in the eveninj, though it would seem with no very great determination. as a very inferior force captured their two guns with which they inte.i(Jd to batter down the jail door, a:iJ turned them against (he mob.
