The boasted Tiberty of Englishmen was, in a great measure, the work of Normans. Magna Chart was exclusively a Norman affair; and the noble Lords and gentlemen who drove ut Jakes II, were for the moat patt, men who had kept their Norman blood, pure and were proud of it. before considered as the consequeucea of the war loans. As the quarterly reports multiply, thev, together wilh the course of exchanges, will form a most useful indication of the current of commercial payments. Last year at this time the war began to influence specie payments, and the amounts sent at lower rates of exchange were larger than now is the case. The customs duties for the quarter euding June 30, 1853, were $15,CM,000 a sum which wjuld indicate an importation of datable goods equal to $63,561,000, or $1 G,150 ,000 more thau given iii the present report.
