Unfortunately, we havo no claims to this branch of literature; and, if there is any music in our soul, we have never yet been cna1,1. d to discover it. Such is our present con

Wo must claim the indulgence of our patrons
be decided on, is, how this evil is to be re
medied. It at once occurs that it will not benefit this class of the community, should thev be
set at liberty in their present condition, and allowed to remain in the United Slates. Ignorant as they are in a majority of instances, and totaily deprived of every incentive to industry and economy, it would not be casv for those who have passed the meridi
an of life, to support themselves comfortably,
mid to provide tor their declining ears. Jt
w ill then be necessary, that, prc ions to their liberation, thev should receive some educa
tion that thev should at least be instructed
in reading and writing. It is also, neeessa
rv, that after they should be set at liberty,
they should immediately be sent to some lands w here they may enjoy those civil privileges and immunities which arc w ithheld
from them here. Hayti has been spoken ot
as holding forth advantages to emigration bv this class of our population. It unques
tionably oilers many inducements, but for mvself' I irreallv prefer Africa. Experience
has shown that emigrants trom vo unueu

have there risen in the scale of intelligence
and assumed a respectable station in socie

Many very voung ladies suppose that in or

is altogether a mistaken idea. Eools may, indeed, admire a display of gold and diamonds, silks and laces, but men of sense overlook these things, and if they think of them at all, do so only with pain. An attention to domestic duties should be
enjoined upon all. Fortunately in the North and West, this receives a much larger share
of attention than it does in the Southern, and
indeed, in all the slave holding States. No ladv is prepared to become the mistress ol

Mothers who feel anxious for the future w el
fare of their daughters, should think of this; they should recommend and enjoin it upon them from day to day, until it should be impressed upon their minds in characters too indellible to be effaced. Much future in
convenience, much unhappiness, I may add, would thus be avoided. We cannot judge of a day until it has closed; neither can w c be certain as it regards our future destiny, until the period allotted

end their career poor, lorlorn and lorsaken.
It is, therefore, proper that we slould cultivate habits of strict economy. By ibis means, w c not only lay up a fund for charitable purposes, but prepare ourselves for any dispensation which may await us. Those who
have voluntarily debarred themselves from the luxuries of life, do not feel their loss when
deprived of them; nor is this ail it is ac
knowledged that pride, hauteur, and a host
of evils follow- on the train ot sensual enjoyment. Loud laughter and rude jesting, should be avoided by those w ho w ish to make a favora
ble impression on the minds of the other sex. Too great diffidence, should also be overcome. Wc do not like to see too much bold
ness, on the contrary, if it is necessary to
run into extremes, w c prefer the former. Let

be eradicated.
Will these hints be regarded? The wri

court fame as a w riter, but ardently desires the appellation of a benefactor to mankind.
Such as they arc, they arc offered without

Hint for the Ladies. The longer a woman remains single, the more apprehensive she will be of entering into ths slate of wedlock. At seventeen or eigh
teen, a girl will plunge into it, and often without fear or wit; at twenty she will begin to think; at twenty four weigh and discriminate; at twenty eight, will
be afraid of venturing; at thirty will turn about, and look down the lull she
ascended, and sometimes rejoice and
Fomctimcs repent, that she had attained
that summit.
How memory will delight lo trace,
Her infant days and childhood's hour ; The endearing smile the kind embrace -The swelling bud the opening flower. How short the date since health's full bloom, Flush'd on that fair and youthful cheek, Now Harriet sleeps within her tomb She met the mandate mild and meek. Oh '. may she bloom above the sky, Ture as the blue ethcrial air ;
No tear to dim her cloudless sky, Nor blight nor blast to enter there. The ravages of death were slow: Alas! no mortal aid could save, Upon her check the hectic glow, Too plainly told an early grave. Deeply lamented is her fate;
From Death's strong nrm was no appeal;
Naught could the summons anlidatc
Her parents long the stroke must feel ;
Lonsr must their bosoms feel the smart :
The lone apartments fire-side board iVll probe afresh the wounded heart; Grace only can relief afford.
