The good old days of huskings quilting matches, and spinning becs have passed away, and as some of our readers may tiave but a faint idea of the nature of a Spinning Bee, w e shall lay before them the following letter, published in an old Boston paper. Last Thursday, about Twenty young

But 1 cant tell you much about it till we get there, for .1 cant find any time to write. I've only catched a few minutes this evening while the President is is gone into Mr. Niblo's garden. A FARMER'S LIFE.

A farmers life, we should think, must

be one of happiness. Could oer friend

amongst that tlass look in upon us, and

witness the doings ofa printing oflico,

they would thank their stars that then

pursue a different calling If there is any time when we re inclined to indulge feelings of envy, it is when we get

loose from oirr confined and sedentary labors, after twelve or fourteen hours digging ameng the types, and sally forth to observe w hat is passing around us. It is then that we compare the healthy locks of the Farmer with the ghostly appearance of our brethren of the ink

and types see the fruits of his industry ripening before us, and observe the look

ef good nature and happiness shining

through every lealirre, s he gases upon

the growth of that which his hand has planted; and hear the voice of health and joy, and plenty, from his farm house, we are almost led to believe that the good things of this life arc not equally distributed. It is the truth that mankind are not

half sensible enough to the superi-j ority of the farmer's situation, in regard to happiness, over every other class in the community. While the merchant, mechanic, and the pro

fessional men, are harrasscd with care

p.nd anxiety, the farmer's mind is as free and clear as the air that meets him when he goes to his field. After the labors of

the cay arc over, the husbandman can retire to his home and enjoy the luxury of rest. Not so the man of business: he only changes perplexing toil for anxiocs

rejections: and while the lord of the

soil is dreaming --of fat oxen and agricultural prire his eyes are unclosed and his mind is upon the stretch in an endeavor to invent means of takinrr un
