THE STATESMAN.
LAWRENCEBURGH, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, JULY 12, 1833.
Mr. Clarkson, who has superintended the publication of this paper, for several months, will cease all connexion with it in a few days; the paper however will continue to issue without any irregularity. Mr. J. R. Smith a young gentleman, who last year edited the "Virginia Literary Souvnier" at Richmond Virginia, with honor to himself and credit to the paper, will hereafter be associated with me in editing the Statesman ; and I have no doubt its readers will find additional interest from his assistance. It is our design so soon as the election is over to enlarge our paper to an imperial sheet, which will make it of the size of Hammonds "Gazette'' of Cincinnati. And we confidently expect then an increase of patronage from the public, although it has been liberal, to encourage us in our labours. The expenses attending such a change will he considerable, and did we consult pecuniary interest a!one, we would probably remain as we are; but living as we do, in one of the oldest, most wealthy, and densly populated counties in the State, we feel some ambition to publish a paper quite as useful, and respectable in appearance, as any in the State.

The principle object of the novelist's mah- . azine is to furnish a choice selection of approved novels, in such a form, and upon such terms, as may make them generr.llj- desirable and generally attainable. For this purpose, the best work, both of the present and past, are chosen, and reprinted in a way which, while it enables us to fnrnidi a large amount for a cheap rate, combines also elegance and excellence of mechanical execution. The Magazine bpin printed on a large sheet, with double :olumns of small type, contains in each semimonthly of forty-eight pages, as much as two ordinary sized duodecimo volumes. In the eicht number already published, we have given Henry Masterton; the Rook of Beauty containing i ho Talisman, the Enchanter, Rebecca, and several other small novels; BarnevJMahoney; Clan Albin; Marriage in High Life; the Mourning Ring; a Year nnd a Day, &.c. ; and in the ninth number, now published, we have commred an Original Novel, prepared expressly for the Maanzine, by a eenfleman of Maryland. This will be found highly interesting in the story and characters nnd well written as regards the manner and narrative. The preent size of the Novelist's .'Magazine has been objected lo bv seme, as brine too large

termined to reduce the page in onr next vol-

Thee volumes, as they will conform to thc standard novels in general use, will be better adapted for preservation in libraries. In the progres of the ensusng volume, we mean to furnish several very rare ap.d valuable work of the rldr novelists, w'uich are now almost entirely out of print : nnd from the an . nounecments made in the r.ntrlish Reviews, we have no doubt that wo can also present to our readers several noy's now in preparation by the popular writers of the day. Those persons who are desirous of obtaining ropies of the present volume of (he Novelist's: Magazine, are requested to trapmit their orders ns soon as convenien, as the edition are now printing is 'imiled to n number -which is nearly exhausted.
