Uoss Smii.ey F.s.i. of Fajette county, i announced in the late Indianapolis
papers a a candidate for Lieut. Governor, at the approaching election. He ithe political friend of the present administration. ItisaUo stated, upon pretty good authority, that Gen. Jonathan M'Carty, lias determined to run for Congress, in this district, at the approaching election. If this be true, Mr. Lane may look out for squalls.
The Grand Cm rr. In obedience
to the mandate of the little drill-sergeant of the Palladium, and his more august master " of the rt d Infr,'' the grand Sanhedrim of the County assembled in this place, on Saturday last, to
the number of fifteni with a view of instructing the good people of Dearborn, particularly the friends of Gen. Jackson,
how they mu.t vote at the coining election. After setting in ferret conclave for halfa day, the following ticket, we understand, was agreed upon ; which we expect to see ushered he lore the public, through the official jouri.;.l, under the imposing caption of u Thr Dnnocratie Republican Ticket for Dearborn comity."

Three of the gentlemen nominated, have been very active for several weeks pait, in getting up meetings, and urging the propriety of forming a ticket purely on party principles ; we do not. tliere-

confidence that there still exists a spark I laditim. vt ill lay before the public, a con-
of honor in the Jackson ranks, unextin
Amos Lvne, Ecq. This gentleman i now f. irly before the people of the IVd Congressional district, as a candidate to lepresent them in the next Cnncress ol
the United States; and as suth he deserves a passing notice. Every artifice which human nature could devise every efTort which human energy could male, has been prectised by him, during the last six months, to induce the friends of the present administration to take him into full favor and communion, and adopt him as tluir candidate for Congress on party ground. How far his efforts have prevailed, the result of the
petty caucus of Saturday lat, will show;
but whether his exertion will be crow n
ed with entire success, time alone must
determine. In the mean time we give
it as our deliberate opinion, and which
receives stronger confirmation w ith ever? dav's experience, that the people of this district are too far above the levt 1 of Amos Lane, in political honesty and moral virtue, ever to extend to him the hand of fellowship, arid elevate him to an honorable seat in the high councils of the nation. Tin y have known the
man too long, and have scrutinized his
public and private character too minutely, tobe gulled by his artifice ; and, until the fact is coiulushcly dt ni" nitrated, we. shall lark faith in his success upon the political hobby which he has mounted with such unblushing effrontery. In making this declaration, w e do not in-
lend to intimate that the friends of the
present administration, in this ditrict, have not the political strength necessary o succeed in the man of tlu ir thoic e,
nor sufficient unity of action to accomplish their obje t nay, they haxt poht.f al strength, and unity of parpose; but n-c believe that they are wanting in con.'dence in the political integrity of the nan who has thrust him If forward for
guished by the storm of party we do believe that there are many honot and patriotic Jacksonians in our country, who, amid the illusion of party strife, still entertain a high regard for political consistency. Such men will never take
to their bosom an eUvcnth-hour apostate, who turned his back on the late administration, only, when he saw the "sceptre departing from Judea, and a lawgi
ver from between her feet."' They will never cast on his unworthy shoulders the insignia of honor, while thev can
find in their ranks a solitary "original Jackson-man, dyed in tlic wool" w ho is worthy of the trust. "Ye cannot believe for a moment nav. we will not
entertain the insidious slander, that the
high-minded Jacksonians of this district
can so soon forgive the man who has oftentimes loaded the character of Gen.
Jackson w ii!i reproach who lias pursued the illustrious hero of New-Orleans
with ruthless calumny whoha endeavored to blast his fair fame with the syroc of slander, and darken his laurels with the imputation of crime. Yhat has been the language of this man, in reference to the ii dividual on whose
i shoulders he now hopes to ride into office? u What!" says he, u elect Gen. Jackson President! Gen. Jackson! the hero of cock-pits! a common brawler! a cold-blooded tnurdtrer! ri fiosc hands are yit inking in the blood of his f llozccreatures !! ! Hm;in is too noon roit him!!! Away with such a man! Let not the blighting curse fall upon our
country. Let not the lair lame ol America ever be tarnished by so foul a stain." Such was the language he re-
peatedlv indulged in, if not literally, at least in substance, during the pendency of the fust election between Mr. Adams and Gen. Jackson. And he dare not denv it; for we could this dav bring twenty living witnesses. toUsiiiv to the
lart. let tins same individual tm landcrer of Gen. Jackson this revil- r of the great and good has assumed to himself the distil gui: ht d honor of being the real Pinion-purr of the Jackson par
ty; and has presented himseW to the
world as the uniloim admirer of Gcti. Jackson as the friend of reform as
the eneinv ofk bargain and intrigut." A ";' may he drawn into his support by his artful devices, and a few more mav adhere to him through personal motives: hut we confidently believe that the honest and disinterested portion of the Jackson party will spurn him from their presence, as base metal as a political hypocrite as unworthy to be received into the ranks of either party.
