Indiana Lkcislatvuk. Very little business of a general nature lias yet been acted on ly the Li 'jjialature. A committee, consisting ot five members from each house,
id engage J in revising the Statute Laws of
this State, which will, no doubt, prolong the session at least two weeks beyond the. ordinary tune. From the legal talents and good practical scnc, which has been brought into requisition fur this important duty, we may reasonably anticipate a well digested code of law s, embodied in the compass of
an ordinary voluro. . There seems to be a
disposition to adopt a uniform mode of do
ing county busines.. The present l'robate svstem will not be changed. A resolution inquiring into the expediency of authorizing three terms of the Circuit Court, was rejected, by a. large majority. The propo
sition to adopt the ad valorem system of taxation, has been rejected . On .Monday, the lHth inst. the Legislature proceeded, in joint ballot, to elect three President Judges of the 1st, '2d and 'M Judicial Circuits, and
three Prosecutors in the 2d, 1th and Tub Judicial Circuits; which resulted lit the re-election of the 1 1 onrables John H. 1ktek, John V. Kus, and .Milks C. Ecoli:ston, as V resident Judges of the 1st, '2d
and 3d Judicial Circuits, without opposition. In the Cd and 1th Circuits ; John 11. Thompson, and Charles I. IJattei.le, I'siirs. were re-elected Prosecutors, on the 1st balloting, without material opposition; and in the filth, Pmi.ir fc?wr.r.T-i:u, Esq.
was elected Prosecutor , on the '2d balloting

SSknatob in Congress. We learn from Indianapolis, that our present Senator in Congress, William Hendricks, was reelected on Monday last, f-r six years from the 1th of March nct. Four gentlemen were voted for, to wit: Messrs. Hendricks, li.ton, Dewey, and Law ; and there were four ballotings before an election was ef
fected. We do not know, certainly, the
number of votes each received on the i'.iI
te-rcnt ballotings, but are informed that on
the 1th ballot, Mr. H. received 11 votes,
being a majority of the whole num'oor e;iv en Mr. IJoonV highest vote was '2S.
IX SENATE. 1'kIDAY, DtCLMELR 10. Mr. GnErionv otTered for adoption the following preamble and resolution: Whereas, the laws of tho state have become, by various enactments, uncertain in their bearing and effect, owing to their scattered situation indifferent books, (the differens acts of the general assembly since the year 1021) and the frequent
changes made in the duties of officers of
tho different counties and townships, so
that it has become dithcultfor parties lit
lant to have equal and impartial justice
done them, which renders revision and
compilation essentially necessary in ma
ny parts of the state; and whereas, in the
message of his excellency the governor,
for the last three years, the legislature
has been officially informed by him, that a well digested code of laws would be
presented to the general assembly, during
his administration; and believing thatuu
tv alone makes it necessary to know how
far this code ism progression, and vvlieth
er we may expect to have it in time for
this general assembly to acton; therefore
Rescind, i hat the president ot the son-
ate be requested to respectfully address his
excellency the governor upon the subject, and to learn bow far he has progressed in the codification of the laws of the state, if at
all, when and what time we may expect its
presentation.
