r tue Vice Prealtlentlal mi nation n toe DuhUi Ticket Tender cd to W.u. JU. Taucyl The Richmond Enquirer aajs: "We have received a. large number of letters from different farts of the Union, asking exact information as to the statement, made in several public speeches by one of our editors, concerning the tender of the Vic Presidential nomination, made by the Douglas men to the Hon. Wm. L. Tanrey. With the pressure of work now upon our hands, it ia impossible for us to answer all these severally. We trust that the following explanation will answer erery purpoae."
A member of the Virginia delegation to Charleston and Baltimore paid a visit to Mr. Yancjr, at Washington, juat previous to tie assemblage of the Baltimore Couveotion. At the tame time, Mr. Yancy also received a visit from a very influential member of the New York delegation, a Iis tiuguished and ardent supporter and intimate confidant of Mr.Douglas. The New Yorker commenced an unreserved conversation with Mr. Yaiicy, in presence and hearing of a Virginia dele gate, by stating that the best means tu unite the Democratic party and insure its sue cess, would be to couple the names of Mesre. Douglas acd Yanry that thiaronld 1 rflVcled at once, if Mr. Yancy would but consent to take the Vice Presidential nom ination, tobe coupled with Mr. Dougla' nomination, for the Presidency. With a rjuiet smile, and his usual bland manner, Mr. Yancy promptly replied that the arrangement was one to which he could under no circumstances, consent; that "oil and water would not mix." The New Yorker then remonstrated; re minded Mr. Yancy that politiciarrs were frequently obliged to resort to such expe dients; ana an 9 urea mm that tne arrange ment proposed, if adopted, would secure not only Mr. Yancy's personal promotion, hut the nltimato ascendancy of Mr. Yanry' political views and governmental pol icy; that Mr. Douglas was already so en feebled by disease that he could scarcely live six month J after the Presidential election, and thus Mr. Yancey's candidacy would be sore to make him not only V ice President, but, very soon President of the United States. To all snch persuas;ons Mr. Yancey re plied wi'.h the same polite and decided re fusal to permit bis name to be used on a ticket headed by that of llr. Douglas. The Vesuveoii. Johnicn lu Mal Ol Drnpllon at Terre Hante. The Douglas candidate for Vice Presi dent according to a dispatch in the CiDCin nali Commercial, nsed the following lanirn2" : " Abe Lincoln, the great rail splitter I own twenty boys ; any one can beat him at a day's work splitting rails, and give him two hundred. would prefer one of them for President, it help tne God, to Abe Lincoln: What do you think of that, ye freemen of the North T , This nigger-driver, with aristocratic pomposity, swears he would rather fwe a Nkieo President than Abra ham Lincoln. If there is a Democrat that con vote for H. V. Johnson after this, he can do almost anything. Mr. Johnson prefers a nero to Abraham Lincoln I who is this that , speaks so sueeringly of one of Nature's noblemen ? It in a man who perhaps never earned a dollar by hard work in his life : a man who ri.l.-s in a fine corriane with servants to wait upon him, and lives upon the hard earning of a hundred slaves, in indolence und luxury. This is the maa that comes over to the Free North with his plantation bluster, and aneera at the representative of Free Labor, Abe Lincoln. God forbid that such a man ilould ever receive lie vtes ot a free people. Hornet, The Camels in Texas. Capt.
