A Naw Fibm with New Goods. Wc dcaire to invite the attention of our citizens to the new firm of Hartsock, Allen fc Co., which has just been formed, and now ready to wait on customers at the old stund of D. U. Arnold 4 Co., corner of Wabash and Market streets I he several members of this firm are will known to this community as men of indomitable energy, of extensive means, and of unswerving integrity. Mr. Hartsock has btd long years of experience in the business and is the best cnttur, perhaps, in the country Thej Larc just rcceired a fresh stock of goods which In style and quality wns never equalled in this city. These goods were selected by Mr. HarUock in person and his great experience, has enabled him to make the most judicious NeVclion. The goods were bought exclusively fircash and will be sold at a mall advance. The stock of read) .made clothing itofp superior order to that usually found in establishmeat of this character. Iu ihw Merchant Tailoring department, which will be un. der the immediate charge of Mr. Uartck will be found a style of goods never brfore brought to this market. Their cloths, cas ameret, vesting Sec, are of the most superb styles and finish, and the utmost x.-u-isfaction will be guaranteed both as to the material and workmanship. We have not the shadow of a doubt that thia house will become tho most popular Clothing Establish meat in the city, for each Member of the firm possesses all the elements of popularity being affable gentlemanly and accommodating, and keepioj always on hand the finest stock of goods they -eaanot fail to merit and receive a most liberal patronage. We commend them to the public, most codially. m - TotFiax. The fire yesterday morning did much more damage to the building than we bad supposed, and the stock ia store was almost totally uestreyeJ except a few barrels of Liquor. The fire was suppressed just iu the nick of time, as the barrels were charred almost through the 6taves. Had these burs ted and the liquors been mingled with the flames it would have been almost impossi ble to have saved the other wooden buildings. Mr. Stein had his stock insured for 2.000 which will fully cover his loss. Mr. Random had the building insured for $700 which will reduce his loss to $300 or $100. Mr. Abbott, Mr. Sage and Mr. Ohme loss but littl in damage- of goods. The damage to the building, which 14 owned by Mr. Sage's is comparatively Mnall. No one "ve think doubts that the: fire wan the work of an iseeodiary, as the building was not occupied by any family nor had there been any fire io the building during the day. Tbe fire appears to have been started inside as the wbolof the interior was ia a flame before the alarm was given. JJr; Bailor of the Detective Police had passed the building but 20 minutes bfora the alarm was giveo and saw no indications of fire. Dr. Mahan had passed but a short time before, and saw no signs of fire. The matter we hope will be thoroughly investiga ted that tho incendiary may be brought to justice. Lixcol Viacwia. We received a privats letter on Mooday from Western Virginia ia which the writer says that the enthusiasm for Honest Old Abe is very warm in that region and that he will undoubtedly carry several of the northwestern counti.s, in what is termed the Panhandle. . He further says that the Democracy almost to a man go for Breckinridge and Lane, as the people regard Douglas as a trickster and a political mountebank. Bell and Everett will get but few voles in the Panhandle. I,.,.' Slaughter House roa Sale. Miller, Jshnsou A Co.,ofTe.' their large Slaughter House and Packing establishment at Mat toon. CoLCMBti.Iad , Aug., lbCO. Ens. Uazitti: Seeing ia one of your late issues a rf Terence lathe stale falsehoods perpetually repeated ty his Ex Her erence William M. Lincoln did do- in refcrenco to that subject. The proposition was made by Mr. Lincoln whon the House wuh ennaiilerintr a I. ill nnria,! t.v U I'n.l, - .V..V... from the Committee on the Judiciary, to amend to the Bounty Lin I Law of 1S17. The lirst nmcnJiii nt desired by members of this House, had for its only olject to give bounty lands to such per sons as had never teen discharged as such because promoted to office That subjuct, and uo other, was embraced in lliin bill. Thus notouly is this hallow, barefaced falsehood exploded, but its circulation has developed the fact, which otherwise probably no ono would ever have troubled themselves Io hunt up, that Mr. Lincoln was ever watchful of the interests of tho noldirra who fouht our battles in Mexico, notwithstanding he believed in common with Clay and many others of great eminenco at Ilia', lime and since, nnd indeed with a majority of tho Houso of which he waa a member, that the war was'unnecessarily and unconstitutionally begun by the President," and that ho had nn equal regar l for the interests of Uiohh whom no one will deny to have been equally deserving tic volunteers of 1812.
