We give below th oiateral portion of a apeech nt Je in the late Democratic Co;i veotion bj a Southern Doulas Democrat It tl rieb, tod full upon the alave qaa lion in all ita different phases. Mr. Ooul - da ia a genuine, out-spoken member of hit party. II differs from the rest oolj in this ha has tha independence to apeak at be fella, while thej are owarda to their conviction. Read this, hers is Democ racjforjou: HAT SLATCKY BA DO.Vg Thia institution of Slavery, aa I bare . aaid elsewhere, has done more to advance the prosperity and intelligence of tbe white raco and of the human race than all else together. I believe it to be found ad upon the law of God; I believe it would be a blessing to all races; I believe that liberty would not truly exist in thia Western World except by maintaining the integrity of the great national Democratic party. Applause J As for thia irrepressible con flict party, with their aemed ranka now ready to march down upon as, I have no laito in it, because it 1 founded m ao ir cby, in everything anti-republican, in everything that is opposed to human pro gress ; while I understand the idea of tbe great national Democratic pr ty to be non-ioterventiun in its broadest aenee. Applause J cassot do Hcca is oeokgia. .T . sVT . m a now, my Bonnern friends, l do not know that t can do anything in Georgia to reconcile these matters, out whatever I can W a a. a do 1 will. I Applause J 1 aar that our friends in Georsria hol are crying out for protection to Slavery in the Territoriea arc advocating a mere theory, a mere abstraction, a thing that ia not and cannot be; tney would do much better if they would demand protection from the General Government, and have a line of police eatablished along the borders of the Slave states to caich and bang the thieving abolitionists who are atealing our iT eera. Laughter and applauae.1 That ia a means of protection, and why? Because it is practical. Kenewed laughter and applause. slats aaxiBiso. Here ia my old native State of Virgii.ia, the slave trading and alave breeding Sr.ate of Virginia. Laughter Delegate from from Va. I call the gentleman to order. Be casta an imputation upon Virginia by calling her the slave breeding Stale of Virginia. Mr. Ooulden Well, I will aav the slave breeding States of Ueorgia then 1 e or? in being a alave breeder myself, f Loud langnter.j l win face tbe music mvnelf, and I have as many oeeroea as anv man from Virginia. Aa I invited tl.e gentle men of thia Convention at Charleston to visit my plantation, I will say again, that if they come to see me, I will show them aa fine a lot of negroes, and tbe pure African too, aa they can find anywhere; and 1 will ahow them as handsome a set of little children there aa can be seen, laughter, and anv quantity of them, too: renewed laughter, and I wish that Virginia may be as good a slave trading and alave breed in? State aa Georgia, and in aaying that, I do sot mean to be disrespectful to Virginia, but I do not mean to dodge the question at all. aov-irrxaTcxTiox. Now, I want no office; I never asked any; I did cot ask the State Convet.tioo to aend me here; but I am here to tell the truth to you all, and thia is ray idea of Don-intervention: I waut the State of Vir ginia, if ahe has negroes, to have as tiaoy aa ahe pleases; if you want alavery in Maaaacnusetia.'l want vou to have ft: if . ' . T 1 - SM.- TT ' - J a you want it in maiana, unio, n isconain, and Minnesota, in Ued a name have it. It is your right to have slaves, and just as many or as few as yon please. I will never join a party which desires to force ala vary anywhere or keep it from anyplace. Applause. I believe that it is regulated by the law of God, of nature's God, and all history proves that to be so. All that I ask is, hands off leave it to the people of the States and Territories to settle that matter for themselves, under the Constitution of the United States. Applause. And now while I am op I waut to put my veto upon one thing. I know that I am not going to be applauded ia what I say, but teed town in good time will bring forth frail, and though you may say now that I am wrong, yet I think 1 shall live to see he dij when lhe doctrioes I adrocaie to eight will be the doctrioes of Msfciachuaetta and of the North, for Trnth crushed to earth willriie again, The eternal years of God are hers While error, wounded, writhes In pain. And dies amid her woishtppera ! WAXTI THE SLATE TaADE. I any I go for nou-iotervention in the broadest sense of the term. I say that thia whole thing should be taken out of the hands of the General Government. I aay it is all wrong U be spending two or three million! of dollars annually from oar pockets, and aacrificing thousands of lives upon the coast of Africa, in that terrible clime, to prerent our goiog there to get a few negroes. If it is right for us to go to Virginia and buy a negro and psy $2.000 for him, it is equally right for us to go to Africa, where we can get them for fifty. Applause and laughter J Here is the condition we are placed in, and joo an ay as well come to your aensesand face the music. There are 2,000 of our negroes now down at Key West, begging and pleading not to be sent back. If they should be sent back what would be the result? One half of them would die before they got thure, and the other half would be turned upon the coast of Africa upon the coaat of Liberia, among strangers, to be eaten up by caoni bals, or be caught and told again, or die of starvation; and this you call humanity: I ssv it ia piracy:! aay that our govern nent it acting against right and reason in thia natter: and if the Southern men had the punk and apiritto come right up and face the North, 1 believe the Northern Dem cracy at leaat would come to the true doc trine of popular sovereignty ana non in tcrveotion. Applause and laughter. Think of it: two thousand of these poor barbariaoa from Africa caught within the laat four week, and kept upon tha misers ble island of Key West, dying there from disesse and starvation; and wnatdo not die are to be aent back by our Government at an expense of one or two millious, tho they are veggiog not to be sent tacK, sou landed udoo tbe coast of Africa. It ia cruel, inhuman, wrong, aod 1 appeal to the rood sense of the American nation ageiott it. Look at John Bull; be has bound na to catch all we Can, aod we aend them back at au expense of twenty-five dollars per head. We send them back, but what does John Bull do when he gets them? lie apprentices them out again and makes slaves of them. That Is the hypocritical treaty that you are bound by, and jt 1 bear no soutnern voic, or nur thern Toice. raised against this ajrgressioo upoo the law of nature and of nature a God, but 1 intend to raise my voice agaioat it. humble as it is. Now, this may be a secondary question before na tonight. The event point is har mony aud onion in the great Democratic ! party. Let os whip the Black Republicans, ( let ne win the fight, an I when we have settled these tbioge, let ui ac together j aod all will be right. THE CAMPAIGN OPENED MISSOURI. Duriog the past several dsya the second aanual examination of the classes in the TerreHauteFemaleCollege has been progres aiog.and as far aa we had the plessore of lis teaing to them, there was much proficiency and abolastic attainment evidenced. Indeed some of the classes in the higher braochft showed bat too conclusively, that every attention had been paid to their mental training, and that tbe Professors had not been negligent ia the discharge of tbeir responsible dutiea. Yesterday, however, was theconmence tnent that long to be remembered period in a student's life. The graduating class consisted of Miss Linie Shepard, Miss Carrie Barton, Miss Tillie Tutt, Miss Lis tie Gaines, Misa Addie Barber, Miss Mollie Buttles, M iss Sue Hiett, and Misa Clara Collett. It is difficult to determine which of the youog ladiea acquitted herself the better. Where there is so much excellence dis tinctions are unnecessary. Each showed the advantages derived by a collegiate course of mental training, in tbe use of our vernacular, and in writing it correct ly. While tbe young ladies of the entire clsss certaialy acquitted themselves to the satisfaction of their teachers and the friends of the institution, we cannot refrain from sayiog that we were highly pleased with the efforts of Miss Buttles and Miss Col lelt. The address to the College, by the Rev. L. Abbott of the First Congregational Church of this city, waa a most happy and racy effort often brilliant abounding in sharp thrusts at fashionable female education beautifully descriptive mas terly illustrative, and trippingly spoken. It wss particularly fitted for the occasion, aud shows how versatile are the acquire raenta of the Rev. Diviue. When Mr. Abbott had concluded, Rev. John Covert, President of the College, delivered an able Baccalaureate Address, filled with most excellent advice to theyoung ladies, and concluded by conferring upon each the Baccalaureate Degree aod presenting the Class with Diplomas. Tbe whole exercises were highly credit able creditable alike to the institution, to the Faculty, to the speakers, to the graduating class, and to the city of Terrell a ute.
