PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 25.
At noon yesterday an immense throng of people were assembled at the navyyard, to witness the launching of the United States frigrate Wabash. Things at this time, just before the launch, in and about the yard, presented quite a picturesque appearance. On the deck of the vessel there were at least six hundred persons, including about one hundred ladies. Outside the ship-house a vast crowd were gathered, whilst thousands had boarded the new lightship •'Martin's Industrythe United States sloop-of-war St. Louis, the receiving ship Union, the surveying steamship Walker, and other craft which had been moored in favorable positions. The steamboats, large and small, that moved about tilled with spectators, added not a little to the interest of the tcene. At a quarter after 12 o'clock, a gun was fired to warn vessels to keep out of the way of danger, and shortly after the sawing away of the plank that alone detained the ship was commenced. This had scarcely been completed, when the vast hull commenced moving, and being accelerated with every instant, she speedily glided in a most majestic and gallant style into the water, amid the enthusiastic cheers of the delighted multitude. The scene on board was animated in the extreme, while every voice joined in checring the noble ship. The head of the vessel was occupied by a large nutnbt »f ladies, including Miss Pennsylvania Constructor attached to the station. The pleasant task of naming the ship was assigned,to her, and as the bow touched the witter, she gracefully broke a bottle containing, water from thu Wabash river upon the scroll-work ornamenting tho head, pronouncing at the same lime the name selected. Other bottles were also broken I in honor of the occasion by the ambitious gentlemen in attendance upon the ladies.
In a short time the frigate was brought back to the wharf and her passengers safely landed. After this was ctlectud. the workmen, fully one thousand in num-

So sang the gifted poet Keats. What can be more beautiful than a fine head of Hair, that noblest of nature's adornments. Who that is young, but rallies the luxuriant locks of youth, and would preserve them and who that is old but would avert baldness. To all such we commend JLios's K*ituiaox universally acknowledged to be most valuable and the most delightfully perfumed toilet article ever prepared. taxes for the city of Terre-Haute for the year 1S55, are now due, and the Duplicate is in my haudsfor collection. The law requires all city taxes to be paid to the Treasurer at Aw office: The taxes are thirtyfive cents on each hundred dollar* worth of property—fifty cents poll tax, and one dollar on each dog. The same law requires the Treasurer, from and after the first Monday of November, to enforce collections according to law, which will be strictly enforced, adding ten per cent, and costs.

ST. That we urn mannfacltiring a better of Cooking Stoves, from a very lnrgc variety of patterns, thnn are kept at any similar establishment on the Wabash. 2d. That we are selling them very clieap— cheaper than as good an article can be obtained elsewhere. 3d. That they are fully warranted, and that we are always prepared to repair them cheaply ard substantially, at short notice, having the plates, or pattorn to make thcra, always on hand. 4th. Thai a Stove made at a distance is not worth half as much as one of ours, for when aplate bresks or burns out, it uses up the whole institution, as it costs more lo repair it than to buy a ne»* one whereas, we can always fit a plate into a stove of our own make, at a very trifling expense. 5th. Our STOVES arc thicker, and consequently more durable than those made farther East, and not liable to fire craks.
Now, friend, if you want to be happy, and make your wife and children happv, come to the fountain head and get the genuine article, and you will always invoke blessings on our heads as public benefactors.
