One of the strangest things in this world. 'U the carelessness with which marriages are contracted. Raisers of milking stock are as careful in th^ir conjunction of animals, as it is pwible to be. Gentleman attache 1 to thi turf are eminently scrupulous an 1 c-iurin-H in this respect. Vice of rain 1—-ve.tknuss of the muscle—a want of co-.tni^c an enJurance—balneas ol temper—liability to disease, do each condemn horse* and exclude him inexorably from ihu beoJing- yard- O.ily the best anim tried au I approved in severley ci'nUsaied races, are employed in the proda *.tion of horses for the turf. More than this, they hive got to have pedigree, and come-of fioce-ors of^pure racing blood. and distinguished on one or both sides for thoroughbred, qualities and great performces. Else they are rejected.

Are men -or women bred with this enre anywhere in this world? We do not know of a single locality where they are. And vet what comp-itis'tn of importance is Ihere between the stock of men and the stock of catlle?

Physical d«ifccts of the most frightful kini, moral defects of a repulsive character, constitute too generally no bar whatever to ra irri ige in the United States. Consumption is bred inwithouta thought —sc itatingly cross upon sobriety, and hereditary lying and stealing are sent dosvn to a young crop of thieves aed dodgers, and meanness, laziness, greediness, silliness, selfishness and vulgarity, are tumbled without argue \vi a hin ir.ince into the common crucible of

IIOUGU'S PATENT MACHINE.—A NEW INVENTION.—WeHICK

noticed at the Fair

(hounds on yesterday, among the mechanical articles on exhibition, a very ingenious machine for making brick, which was invented by A. V. Hough, of Grecncastle, Indiana, and was by him patented on the 26ih of June, 1855. We arc informed that this remarkable machine will turn out one hundred thousand brick per day. The simplicity of its construction will permit it to be worked by either hand, horse, steam or water power. It is so arranged that it will temper the mortar and press the brick so as to make them ready for burning ns know there is a pain, soon as they come from the moulds. This soul." _^^^
