creatures assembled to have their lifetime appointed, the Ass first advanced, and asked how long he had to live.. "Thirty rears," replied Nature that be agreeable to thee?" couragement, nor be refreshed with anything but blows and kicks. Give me but a portion of «he time, I pray."
Nature was moved to compassion, and presented to him but eighteen years. The Ass went away comforted, and the Dog came forward. "How long dost thou require to lire?" asked Nature "thirty years were too many for the Ass, but wilt thou be contented with them?" "Is it thy will that I should," replied the Dog "think how much I shall nave to run about my feet will not last for so long a time: aud when I shall have lost my voice for barking, and my teeth for biting, what else shall I be fit for but to lie in the corner and growl."
r-"
Nature thought he was right, and gave him twelve years. The Ape then came forward. "Thou wilt doubtless willingly live the thirty years," said Nature ".inou wilt not have to labor as the Ass and Dog. Life will be pleasant to thee." "Ah, no!" cried he, "so it may seem to others, but it will not be! Should puddings rain down.I shall have no spoon!— I shall play merry tricks, and excite laughter by my grim faces, and then be rewarded by a sour apple. How often sorrow lies concealed benind-a jest! I shall not be able to endure for thirty years."
Nature was gi^cious he reccive^but ten. At last caqpe Man, healthy and strong, and asked tire measure of his days. "Will thirty years content thef" "How shoft time!" exclaimed Man "when I shall have built my house, and kindled my fire on my own hearth when the trees I shall have planted are about to bloom and bear fruit—when life shall seem to be more desirable, I shnll die! Oh! Nature, grant me a longer period?" "Thou shalt have the eighteen years of the Ass besides." "That is not yet enough," replied Man. "Take likewise the twelve years of the Dog. "It is not yet sufficient," reiterated Man, "give me more." "I give thee ten years of the Ape in vain wilt thou cravc more."
Man departed unsatisfied. Thus man lives seventy years. The first thirty are his human years, and pass swiftly by he is then healthy and nappy he labors cheerfully and rejoices

Unlike SarsaparilU the Hydropiper is quick in its action, the first bottle often producing wonderful results, as in the case of th? negro girl of Mrs. Si mons's, of Louisville, who was relieved of
Blindness in one week.'
In short it has excited the wonder and admir*u of all who have used it, and wherever known stands at the head of all remedies for the following diseases: Dyspepsia, Scrofula, White Swelling, Mesenteric
Diseases or Negro Consumption, Scurvy, Chronic Rheumatism, Gout, Neuralgia. Sores, Ulcers and all Cutaneous or Skin Diseases, all
Renal or Kidney affections, all female" irregularities and obstructions, Mercurial Diseases, Secondary Syphllix, General Debit- -". ity, and all disorders ---frf arising from 1mpure blood and I'f 5H*5 bad habit of
I have ever used—altogether superior to Sarsapa rilla, and any of its compounds. T. N. WARFIELD, M. D, |3" Price—91,00 per bottle—6 bottles for 85,00 when all taken at one time.

DR. URBAN'S
Vegetable Fever and Ague Powders: The only sure remedy ever known for Chills and Fever, and warranted to cure, in all cases, if taken according to directions
It cures, when taken according to direction!, in Twenty Minutes, leaving no Fever after the Chill very seldom requiring more than one dose to make a permanent curc. A great number of cases, from two to five years standing, have been .cured with the first dose, and Chill has never, as, yet, returned. The beauty of this medicine is, that it stops the Chillin twenty minutes, or less, and the patient will be entirely clear from Pever after the Chill, which is not the case when ot^fr medicine is used. It has superseded all other preparations WlrefeVer It has been introduced.
Read Y*bat the Editors of the Louisville Democrat Say from their.ot^n observation: ••Dr.- Urban1*# medicine for the cure of chills and fever has effected rfome Wonderful cures in ourown midst. A young msn who has resided for several years in Lousiana, reached New Albany a few weeks since, weak end errfacfated—literally worn out physically with long coffttrfued chills and fever. He made short stay at the house of Jodge Smith, Where bis old disease continued with itoTcnr severity than at home in Louisiana. Having exhausted almost every remedy known to the medical profession, he procured a box of Dr. Urban's celebrated medicine, aiwf after taking two pewders was entitely relieved snd restored to health. He has been well ever since—says bis health has not been as good for severalyears, and is now fast regaining his former vigor and the rosy cheeks be was Wont to wear.
This medicine can be had at the manufacturers' Depot, R5 Third St., between Main A Market, Louisville, Ky., wholessle and retail. URBAN de DIDLAKB. rVOn the receipt of

This remedy stands unrivalled. Its effects are won dcrful. It is a slight stimulant and a powenui ionic and alterative.
As a beautifier of the complexion, in the cure of pimples and blotches, iu producing a clear and beautiful skin, it is a much more safe and surer remedy than all the cosmetics and lotions in existence. Try it. and you you will never regret it. Do not lose confidcnce If it should seem at first to increase the disease—the general effect of the medicine being to drive all impurities to the surface, and by that means out of the system f?«i

Dr. Urban's Anti-Bacchanalian Elixir!! A Safe and Sure Remedy for the CURE OF INTEMPERANCE
is not in the least injurious to the sy tern* It la pleasant to the taste, and will enre the hardest cases or intemperance. We warrant it in all cases if taken according to directions. It destroy the desire lor all ardent spirits when strictly taken according to directions, and will restore tho individual to the same state of sobriety in which lie was before he ever drank a drop of tho ardent, and he will not have the least desire for Intoxicating drinks.
Intemperance ig a disease and as such the greater the L'xccss in drinking the more speedily is the disease developed, and to such the Elixir is presented as the balm ofGilead—the oil ofconsolation, peace and jer feet restoration.
The more fully u^ ?loped is the disease the more sal utary and powerful the ^.Toct of this Elixir, at once destroying the appetite for spirits, and restoring the tone of the stomach to as healthy an action ait it was bo fore drinking a drop of ardent spirits and when in temperance has assumed this diseased form, reason is measurably dethroned, the will to a certain extent be comes ungovernable, until often, alas! many havi passed the bounds of sober restraint, and though they may desire, in their sober moments, to abandon the use of that which is so rapidly proving their bane they cannot, unaided, and no aid has ever been tender ed such, with succes* until the discox'ery of Dr. Urban's never failing Anti-Bacchanalian Elixir since which time none are left without excuse, as the means necessary to destroy the taste, and again enthrone rea son. bringing the will into perfect subjection, by ex trading the poisonous sting and temptation of the ad der, are placed within every man's reach: those there fore, who hereaRer fill the grave ofthe drunkard must do so by choice, and not of necessity—it matters not -how near it you may be.
As the Elixir is a most powerful purifier of tho blood thg seat of all diseases, it has been used with great sue cess, and is highly recommended in cases of Delirium Tremens, Dyspepsia. Epilepsy, Neuralgia, Liver Com plaints. General Debility, Piles, and all kinds of Ke vers. It is the best alterative known.
TrpThe Anti-Bacchanalian is neatly put up and labelled, with full directions accompanying each hot tie. Price 93 per bottle On the receipt of the above sum it will Be
