New Orleans must be a very lively
place according to the following paragraph from the Picayune, of the 13th: All our hotels are nearly full, and frequent applications are being made at all of them for suits of rooms, and even single apartments. Never did our city present a gayer and more encouraging appearance than at this moment. There were in port yesterday, seven steamships, one hundred and twenty ships, fifty barks, twenty brigs, and twenty schooners. The number of steamboats now running regularly from the port exceeds fifty.
Eh The editor of a N. Carolina paper, mourning over tlic theft of a coat, says: •'We shall never get such a coat again. It was unique and original. It. gave us a canonical look, like unto an exalted dignitary of eome church or other. It was an elegant compromise between a sack coat and sackcloth and ashes y«t did we have a great veneration for it. It was the niastcr-picce—the grand crowning triumph of a western tailor, since gone into the oyster soup business and although we never could appreciate its beauties, we will say that it was exceedingly comfortable on a cold day.

One of the entertainments in New York,

He will pick lip two pins with his eyes and a dollar at the same time with his mouth rolls like a whale in the sea."
