The case of Lowry and King, mayor of Erie, for contempt of court, was decided to-day in favor of the defendants. The decision meets with universal favor, as the testimony for the prosecution utterly failed to make out a case.

There is a rumor here of a duel between Jefferson Davis and Gen. Foote. Mr. Gadsden has telegraphed that the treaty with Mexico is honorable to both the countries. It will no doubt be ratified by the Senate, though some Senators are opposed to it under the supposition that it cedes to us only the Mesilla Valley, which they contend already belongs to us under the treaty of Guadalupe, but the territory ceded contains 60,000 miles.

Board of County Commissioners of Vigo County, Ind., have resolved, to erect this vear, on Lots 3 and 4, in the subdivision of Lot 96, at the intersection of Market and Ohiostreetsjn Terre-Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, a building: for County Offices, which shall combine solidity, durabilily and safety from fire, with neatness and practical convenience in regard to the objects for which it is iritetided.
