In 1H48 Gen. Taylor, with all his laurels fresh, received a bare majority, w'hich everybody knows Was entirely owing to a rupture 111 the Democratic ranks unfavorable to Gen. Cass.— Journal..
Is this as near the truth as you can come?— Taylor had a majority of 36 electoral votes over Cass: nnd of the popular vote, he had One hundred and thirty-eight thousand, four hundred and Jifty-six over Cass I Is that a bare majority? Can't you say next week that Cass beat Taylor?
The name of WM. E. McLEAN, of TcrrcHaute, will be presented to the Democratic District Convention, as candidate lor Prosecuting Attorney for the 6th Judicial District Composed of tins counties of Vigo, Sullivan, Clay, Putnam, Morgan, Owen, Greene, and Mon roc.—Journal.
And if he is nominated and elected, we shall expect an influx of a certain population who lovo good horses, for they would not fear conviction under Mac's indictments. Mac's election would increase the ccnsus that much.

paint Is far better for brick houses than the oil paint, for various reasons: It is inorc durable, looks more brilliant, and prevents the sweating of the walls inside. The brick in this district are of too porous a nature tp receive oil paint. The oil in the paint is immediately absorbed into the brick, and the lead or other paint lefton the surface to be scaled by the summer's sun, or the rain and frost of winter. The Gutta Percha Paint fills all ihe holes and renders the surface much more even and beautiful nnd to conclude, does not cost more than one-third the price of oil paint, and will last three times as long.
Below are some certificates from gentlemen in Springfield, Illinois: My house painted by Mr. Hager, last April, is perfectly wnter-proof, and I Delieve it to be pcrfectlj' durable, from present appearances.

Our conviction has long been fixed that Gen. So believing, we have lnborcd and hoped for his nomination, and we now confidently look to the result to justify our sanguine anticipations.
THE TRIDONE, standing on its own Platform and knowing no other authority but truth, will do its utmost for the election of Sron and GRAHAM but it will not be absorbed hy Political discussion. Wc havo chosen to proffer Campaign subscribers a large sheet rather than a small and cheaper one. because the postage is the same, and because we wish to extend the knowledge of what THE TRIBUNE habitually is. WONDERFUL PROOF!
DR. BLACIvWELL'S
Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla, and
IRIS VERSICOLA.
"I N this age of humbuggery, it behooves every one to J. guard with a suspiciouseye the interests of individuals and cliques. And even then the dazzling splendor of outward show insinuates itself into the favor of manv, and they become willing dupes to unholy ends. Thus it is we see Mesmerism, Clairvoyance, and Spiritual Rappings, absorbing too much of the attention of rational and intelligent beings, even to thedethroning of their supreme intelligence. All feelingan intere?t in their own, and the welfare of the community, and in the further extension of that which is useTul, we would recommend to their serious consideration Dr. BlaciteelVe Compound Sirup of SanaBarilla and trie Vrrticola, and request the same investigation. by way of trial, that has been extended to other objects of less importance. He asserts its superiority to any similar compound ever yet introduced, and defies the public to produce its equal for the cure of the following diseases: Scrofula, or King's Evil, Dyspepsia, Jaundice. Female Diseases, Eruptions, of the Skin, Swelled Glands, and all diseases arising (Tom an impure state of the blood.
In testimony of the eminent virtue of this Compound we subjoin a certificate from a reliable citizen with the opinion of an excellent physician:
LOCISVILLK. June 3. 1852.
Dr. Bl*ekrcll—Dear Sir: I wish through this medium to inform you of the success of yonr Sarsaparilla upon my little daughter. She is now eight years of age. From her infancy she baa been troubled with a breaking cut over her body, resembling Scrofula. At times her arms and legs were covered over with large running sores. Towards the close of last winter she grew so much worse than she bad been before, that I became alarmed, and was about making application to a Physician when I accidently heard of your Sarsaparilla as being gntmi jranjter the He*4. I immediately procured a bottle and commenced its use. Before the first bottle was used up I could see a marked change for the BCTTEK. Continued its use until the third bottle was taken, when an entire cmrt was effected. I am now happy to say she enjoy (Abetter health than she everdid before. In justice to you I must say 1 consider your Sarsaparilla one of the best medicines now in nse for purifying the blood, and curing all diseases arising from its impurity. With this, please to accept my most sincere thanks and well wishes.
J. A. DOUGHERTY.
Here is the opinion of a Physician of the city, whose statement cannot be called in question: Dr. t. r. Bltkrr.U—Sir: In reply to yours I will state, that have examined your receipt for yourCoropound Sirip of Sarsaparilla and lri« Vmeola, and consider it an excellent mtlermtie* Compound.
