If all §en«e of shame ha« nol left the party referred to in ihe following article, tie must even blush at this expojure of liis shameless inconsistency:
From ihe National Intelligence!-.
The gentleman, who at ihe Buffalo ^Convention was most prominent, and apparently most influential, was the Hon. Benjamin F. Butler. He was Chairman of the Committee on Resolutions, and he made and sustained the report of that comhiiltee. Among the resolutions thus reported and adopted by the Convention were the following. "Resolved, That we, the people here assembled, remembering the example of our father* in the days of the first Declaration of Independence, putting our trust in God fur the triumph of our cause and invoking Hit guidance in our endeavor* to advance it, do now plant ourselves tip*•on the national platform of freedom, in opposition to the sectional platform of slavery. "Resolved, that we inscribe upon oor 'banner 'free soil, free speech, free labor, •andfree men/ and under it will fight on, and fi%ht ever, until triumphant victory «hal reward our exertions."
Now, it t* but four years ago, that the name gentleman, Mr. Butler, officiated in the same capacity as Chairman of the Committee, ice., at the democratic convention of 1844, and procured (be adoption of the following resolution: '"Thai tdl eiTirls of the Abolitionism, or others, induce Congress to interfere with quest'ionn df shivery,
#TKI»S
effort* hsrve an inevitable tendency to diimnwh the happine** of the People, endangering the stability anf ptrmaneney •of the Onion and ought not to be. countenanced by any friend of our political institutions."
Comment upon wrffe 'tergiversation would be superfluous.
