Paper Principles.
Some of our ''democratic friends," who ire as guiltless of principle as possible, as tame a terrible ceal for certain platforms. Such aa these parade long columns of Blaring capitals, which mean anything everything, or nothing and about as de(in ite as the position of Cass on the Proviso, or the Harbor and River Improvement Question. The North Carolina Argus hits oit these pretenders in the following emusing style ••OUR FLAG IS THERE."
The Liberty ol the Press, and the Freetlom of Speech. No Alien and Sedition Laws.
The Industry of our own country. No ,'aid and comfort" to the looms and spindles of England.
The cash for old debts, and good security for new ones. A sound currency for the People, and liberal wages for the Laborer. No exclusive Privileges for the oflicc-holders and stock-jobbers.
Improvement is everything, if it can be cflecied but especially in the morals of the Locofoco pariy.
Plenty in the tneal-gum, and "sugar in ihe gourd." The right of every white boy and girl in the Stale loan Education—also to four dollars in money, and a pair of new shoes.
An Equal Distribution of Rain, and no death amonget the Pine Trees. Twelve dollars and fifty cents for Cotton, eighty cents cash for Corn—Wheat aud Oats in proportion.
Shad in the Pee Dec, and "Big Blues" on the Coheras. The right of all while men and women in the State, who pay their Taxes, to take •a Sheriff's receipt for the same.
A Hen in every man's Pot, and New Breeches to all who need them. Thus have we thrown our "Banner to ihe breeze." and we challenge the Standard, and all the other Democratic papers in the State, to a discission on principles.
N. B: We reserve to oursclf the riirhl, always exercised by the Standard, of altering the inscriptions on our banner, as they may become unpopular, or as any •one may corner us on them.
Appointmknts by tiie Phksidknt, by Htntl with the advice and consent of the Senate—Gideon J. Pillow, of Tennessee, (Brigadier General in the volunteer service,) to be Major General, April 13, 1847, vice Benton declined.
John A. Quitman, of Mississippi,
((Brigadier
General in the United Slates
"volunteer service,) to be Major General, April 14, 1847, vice Cummin, declined. Caleb Citahing. of Massachusetts, lobe Brigadier General. April 14, 1847, vice Pillow, appointed Major General.
Sterling Price, of Missouri, to be Brigadier General, July 20, 1847, vice Davis declined.
What is curious in this matter is, that, under a late general order of the President, all these officars were to be out of the service on the 20th of the present month, and that the confirmation of these appointments, demanded of the Senate at this lata hour, would secrn to be unnecessary l»«w for tho public service, ns the withholding of the nomination so long has been insulting to the Senate. Their appointment now is simply creating additional officers of the nrmv in a time of peace.—National Intelligcncer.
Lamartink.—The Boston Atlvwriiscr rontains a very internetting letter Trom Paris, written by George Summer, Esq., in which he pays tlif following tribute (which we trust is all deserved) lo the great poet and statesman:
MI#amartine
saw well that tho new com
bat would come and it was his policy lo (Have it ofTby all means, until the Constitution was definitely organized. For this lie kept by his side Ledru Rollin. History will render him justice, and give him proud niche among those who have had the courage to sacrifica present popularity and to brave calumny in order to be useful to his country."
A PosKR.—A calm, blue-eyed, self-com-posed young lady, in a village "down east," received long call the other day from a prying old spinster who aficr prolonging her slay beyond even her own conception of ihe young lady^s endurance, came to the main qtirstion which had brought her thither: "I've been esked a
Marriage von Money.—I never knew a marriage (or money that did not end unhappy. Yet managing mothers and heartless daughters are continually play* ing the same unlucky game. 1 beliere that men more frequently marry for love than women, because women think they -will not have a better chance, and dread being dependent. Such marriages, no doubt, sometimes prove tolerably comfortable, but a great number would have been far happier single. If I may judge by mv observations of such matters, mar* Tying for a home make* that home a very tiresome one.—Mrs, Child.

Dr. Wrlsht—Sometimes since your agent left me a sunplv of your Indian Vegetable Pills. I have found (wi't Pills io be inpr»at demand lately fr the cure of Kever and Asue. Mr. James Boyd has a Min who has been laid up with Kever and Ague, md hail tried various other remedies.all of which proved of noavail. He determined to try your Indian Vegetable Pills, and by usine one box he is now sound and well. Mr. X. Spencer had a daughter. Mr. Hueh Groves a son,and .Mr. Charles Nichols and three of his family, were down at ihe same lime with Fever and Aiue. and had also tried the various other remedies without effect. Your Indian Vepetable Pills soon restored ihemaltlo perfect health. I I Can asstirp you from what I have, seen, yoor Indian

HORRIBLE MISTAKES!!
Are sometimes made by confounding one medicine with another and administering the wrong article.— Equally horrible ure those mistakes which are made in supposing that all Pills are alike, aud that therefore, it is indifferent which are taken, and —'•!—1 all are bBd together.
