At sunrise, a national salute of .thirteen" guns was fired from the eminence near the Prairie House, accompanied by the ringing of aii the

bells in town for half an hour. Soon after breakfact, the scholar* of several Sabbath Schools as-

•entitled under their teachera and superintendents, near Mr. Gilbert's cottage, and in a procession of

tiear 600 strong, with martial music, marched to 'the Poblic Square, where seats were provided in 'the open ground, fur the Court-Honse could not

'have held the vast assemblage. The ceremonies

'here were several sweet anthems hy the choir, aiWrtl by instruments, and an address by Thw H.

Nctsox, Esq., of Ttockville, which, for purity of style, moving eloquence and brilliant periods,

"we have seldom heard equalled. The speaker'* apostrophe to the Bible was remarkably fine, and

thrillingly said, and must have made a deep impression upon every hearer. Mr. N. is a natural orator—of dignified appearance and pleasing ad

dress—and will make himself enviably known to "his countrymen st no di*iant day. We would

give anything we have for

hit

talents and address

as public speaker. During thi* time, Mr. Char. Dr.wKT.Jr. was

addressing a Sabbath School at the Universal Church, and though in prceeding bad health, we 'henr that his eloquent effort was received wiih

much satisfaction. His hearers, on that occasion, pronounce him a genuine scion of the parent stem

distinction by his own strong arm and polished I mind.
