Jane 23d.

The Utics Convention have nominated MARTIN VAN B1JREN for Pre.ident, and HENRY DODGE, of Wisconsin, for Vice President.

Bnrnbumer's Con venilon—Second Dispatch.

There mmi to be no doabt ibat Martin Van Buren, despite the letter read by Benjamin F. flutter from him, in which is expressed hie desire to remain in private life, wilt accept the riomins(ion.

After the nominations were made, a large mass meeting was held, which was addressed by Messrs. Marcus Morton and Taylor, of Cincinnati.

The Convention passed a free soil resolution, -in favor of disposing of the public land to actual settler* at a price barely sufficient to pay expenses •of surveying.

A plan for organising the campaign was read, -and the Convention then finally adjourned.

The Sentiments of Two Men. The hearts of the people mutt be pre• /paredfor WAR."—Lewis Cass, in the

Senate of the United States. "I sincerely rejoice at the prospect of 'PEACE.—My life has been devoted to arms, yet I look upon war at all times and under all circumstances, as a national calamity, to be avoided if compatible with tiational honor."—Zachary Taylor, in his Allison letter. "We might swallow the. whole of Mexico without being hurt by it."—Lewis Cass, in the Senate of the United Slates. "The principles of our Government, as well as its true policy, are opposed to the subjugation of other nations, and the dismemberment of other conntries by confinest. In the language of the great Washington, 'Why should we quit our own to stand on foreign ground." Zachary Taylor, in his Allison letter.

Compare these together reader, and determine for yourself which utters the most Christian like, humane and patriotic language.

Well Endorsed.—It was suggested to General Scott in 1846, that were General Taylor to achieve a brilliant victory in Mexico, he would be elected President. "Suppose he is," was the magnanimous reply, "we shall have for President an honest man and good Whig."

Extractor a letter from the Greenville Mounialntoet, South Carolina: Dr. W. Wright—Dear Sir A waelc or two ago I aeol jroo a Mountaineer, containing a letter from one of our Volunteers in the City of Mexico, in which he pajt Wright'* Indian Vegetable Pill*, underalllhe circumstances, the hiehest meed of 'praiae I have ever known a metlirine to receive. The Volunteer, William W. GootMetl, Esq., is a reruleman of fine standing—an accomplished and well educatM man, and was recently high nhtriff of this district. Br one of your adverttaements in a Charleston paper, 1 happened in notice the location of your office, and thought you might extract an article of gome value In reptrd to your medicine, therefore I aent the paper. "My health is very fain, improving. I procured, a few daya ago, aoine of Or. Wright'* Indian Vegetable Pill*, and they have acted on my fysteni like magic)"

Thus it appears that the brave and patriotic Volunteers who have gone to Mexico, to defend the rights and honor of their country, already begin to realize the extraordinary value of this incomparable medicine. Long lile to them!

Cim* for Fever nnd A&rur. JiMtelrilU, Putnam county, Ind.,July 17.1847.

Dr. Wrinlil—Sometimes since your agent left me a lupplv of your Indian Vegetable Pills. I have found sai'l fills lobe in real demand lately for the cure of Fever and Ague. Mr. James Boyd has a son who has been laid up with Fever and Ague, «nd had tried various other remedies.all of which proved of no avail. He determined to try your Indian Vegetable Pills, and by uslnr one box he is now sound and well. Mr. T. Spencer had a daughter. Mr. Hurh Grovea a son, and Mr. Charles Nichols and three of his family, were down at the same time with Fever and Aeue, and had also tried the various other remedies without effect. Your Indian Vegetable Pills soon restored them all to perfect health, lean assure you from what I have seen, your Indian Vegetable Pills maybe relied on for a permanent cure of Fever and Ague.
