Dr!l,?e

°*er the gorge that separates the dominions of the Queen from those of th*

If any thing could be wanting

.. President _. in the attraction of the country about Nia^ gara to turn thither the tour of the multi-

Indes in the pleasure season, this bridge will *»pply it. Its thousands of tons of weight of the strongest iron-cord that the ingenuity of the iron-master can: desire, find a safe support in wrought-ironanchors, built in the •olid rock one hundred feet below the surface, so that before it could yield, the very rock-bound eafth would forsake its tenacity, A. large wooden frame work is to be placed ®o that no undulating motion can'be experienced. In full sight of the cataract, the Burge of angry waters far beneath, the sullen ftjorm-beaten rocks all around, the quick lo•ij^ comoti»e will put forth all its quickne*R to rush beyond the peril of its journey. This glorfous work is already begun, the money

Tor its cost paid in and available, the excavations commenced, and the contractor is to pads horseback by the middle of next June. Its firmness is to be such that, with all the burdens of a powerful locomotive and a long attendant train of cars, it is not to vibrate one inch in the centre. The railway is to occupy the centre, two carriage ways on either side, and two footways.

What a magnificent spectacle this road in full use will present! A road of this kind over the Menai Straits in Wales is famous for the daring displayed in its construction. That over the Niagara will soon be worldfamed. It will be an iron link of civilization between the ruling Power* of the world, and will never bo severed.

One of the first thoughts that presents itself in reference to the construction is as to how the wires are to be thrown across. The steamboat now used below the Falls is lo take over two cables, to which strands of Iron sre affixed. These are to be drawn over till two ropes of iron are drawn over, on which a temporary pathway is to be placed and when I inquired where workmen could be found that had nerve enough to work effectually under such circumstances, the answer, so characteristic of American strength of action, was, "Oh, thero are always plenty of Yankees who have both the courage to work thereand the ingenuity to work well

The great railway in Canada which is 15 connect with this mighty work presents some admirable features. Its grade is over twenty feet, and a very large proportion of the distance is on a straight line. On one line perfectly straight, ninety miles are laid out. All the highways of the country are to pass either over or under the road, by depression or elevation as lo bo entirely removed, so that there will be neither obstacle nor hindrance to a flight which will put more lile into the provincial dominion of hsr Britannic Majesty than it has yet seen. "That same" province of Canada West has yet to see great days. England expends millions on sections of her great dominion far less worthy of her notice and festering care.' "The last link" is completed when this gieot bridge of the cataract shall have been completed. From Boston and from New York an unbroken line is prevented, and the day is soon coming when sumo correspondent of yours will delineate the incidents of a thirty hours' journey from the metropolis to Detroit. Such are the movements and the progress in support of which all may unite, and which mark no busy day.

Randolph IIIHI liic Clergy. In debate in the Virginia Convention of 18'29—30, on proportion to exclude ministers from being elected lo the legisI lnture, Jolin Randolph said—'Figure to yourself, sir, a minister of tho gospel of peace about to reprove for his sins, a man of wealth and influence in his county, having at t'nosame time a desire to represent that county. This is no exclusion of any occupation, incompatible with the discharge of the duties of member of either branch of tho legislature. The task of legislation is at war with tho ditties of the pastor. The two are utterly incompatible. No man can busy himself in electioneering (and in these limes who can be elected without it?) No man can mingle in legislative cabals I say no man can so employ himsell without being disqualified for those sacred duties which every minister of the gospel takes upon himself, and for which he is accountable, not to his constituents at home, but to the

God who made him, and who will call liitp to a much more rigorous account than that he renders to hit parishioners.— There i» an indecency in this thing.— We have heard mflch about exclusion of the ladies but there is not grater indecency and incompatibility in a woman's thrusting herselfinto a political assembly and all its cabals, than a clergyman's undertaking the same thing.

One of the greatest masters of the human heart, and of political philaosphy too, declares that while the French are in their manners more deferential to woman than any other people, they hare less real esteem for woman than any other nation on earth. Let me illustrate this. The Turk shews that he values his wife by looking her up it is to be sure a mistaken mode, but he shews that he estimates the value of the treasure by putting it tinder ]«ck and key. The Frenchman permits his wife to mingle in political affairs and if Madame Roland had not been engaged in such affairs. Mn thine Roland would never have ascendcd the scaffold. If women will unsex themselves and if priests—(what shall I say?) degrade themselves by mingling in scenes and in affairs f»r men, they loose all deference they now enjoy they will be treated roughly—like men. Just so it is with priests. They lose all deference which belongs and which is paid to their office (whether they merit it or no.) Rely upon it, if you permit priests to be made members of the legislature, they will soon constitute a large portion of all your assemblies and it has been truly said that no countries were «o ill governed as those which were ruled by the counsels of women, except such as have been governed by the counsels of priests.

many persons put off from time to time, that most important calling—attending to their health before it be too late. Look around us, paiticularly in our city, and we will daily behold hundreds of persons, whose countenances bespeak suffering, with Disease of the Lungs, and a protracted cough, fast approaching their immortal destinations, without, perhaps, being sensible of their serious situations. May this warning awaken tbem in due season—and at once seek relief, which is to be found in DR. This medicino im mediately heals the irritated Membrane of the Bronchi and Lungs, gives strength and support to the enfeebled frame, thus causing the lungs to throw off the viscid secreted matter, that accumu lates and settles upon them.

RK.tn THK F0L10WIS0 CASK ASN CUHE. DN. DUNCAN—Dear Sir: Ynu will please accept these lines from one who has been spared from the famishing fangs of CONSUMPTION, by tho timely use of your inestimable EXPECTORANT REMEDY. I had a call in your city in November last, during a.severe cold and damp spell whish caused me to take a bad cold, attended with some fever. My throat became sore cough dry hard and obstinate, without scarcely any expectoration, pain nnd soreness in my breast at length sweating at niaht commenced, wilh much weakness and debility. During this time I used many medicines, several being hichly recommended in the papers, but they all tended to increase my sufferings, by binding up my system, and only giving temporary relief lo my cough. Finding that my disease was assuming a serious and dangerous character, I begun to be alarmed, nnd took the advice of one of our best Physicians. who at once recommended your "EXPECTORANT REMEDY," and advised mo to procure 6 bottles, I at oncesont to your Cincinnati Office lor them, and commenced using tho medicine as soon as recioved. I fancied it gave me relief the first day. On the second day my cough felt much easier, and I began to throw up large quantities of phlegm and matter. On the sixth day ray coujh disappeared—my strength grndually incrcrsed, and at this present time am tiulv happy to state to you that I ain rendered sound in health, and attend to mv occupation ns usual. The wonderful cures with "Iodine" that have been affected in France, under the direction of the immortal Louis Lsenec and Lugo), together with the happy results that have followed its uae in the private practice of the proprietor, induced him to combine ft wilh his Sanative that he has so long prescribed in diseases ol the Lunga, and Liver, giving it the power of eradicating the Consumptive and Scrofulous Virus from tbe tnrslem, that is possessed by no other medicine, short of Divine interposition. And in order to bring this medicine within the reach of a more widely extended circle of the afflicted, lhan can possibly be reached in his own practice. (and thus to extend its usefulness,) he introduces it before the public under the title of "DR. RUTS'S IODINE SANATIVE

This medicine is pleasant to the taste, and may be taken bv every person under any circumstance, and its good effects will, in mm cases, be experienced in a few days. It will suddenly relieve a hard and painful cough-^-pal!late the symptoms of inflammation, and at the same lime excite a free and easy expectorationthrowing up the foul secretions of mailer and phlegm that obstruct the air cells, thos giving freedom and ease to the circulation, and bunyancjt ana exhiliration to the respiration, giving a auiei languor to the lungs, favorable and indispensable to the healing of deep seated ulcerations.

The Iodine Sanative also gives strength and animation to the enfeebled frame, restoring io the diseased functions nf the system soond health. Who will any longer suffer wilh diseased Lungs or Liver when such a safe and certain remedy is so easily obtained 1

Dr. KATE'S office is at 130 Hycamore st. Cincinnati Ohio, where his Iodine Sanative (together wilh advice if desired) can be obtained. I
