Saltino Msat.—The

sooner neat is
salted after being killed the better, as it then possesses considerable absorbent power which it gradually loses by age, and when it once becomes putrid can never be salted at all. One of the best mode# of curing is to rub the meat w*ll with a mixture of common rock salt 2 pounds, saltpetre 2 ounces, and moist iugar li ounces, till every crevice is thoroughly penetrated, after which it should be set aside till the next day, when it should be covered with fresh salt in such parts as have been most exposed. It may then be advantageously placed in a proper vessel and subjected to pressure, adding a little more salt as may be necessary, and turning it daily till sufficiently cured.
When the brine, as it forms, is allowed to drain from the meat, the process is called dry-sailing but when, on the contrary, it is allowed to remain on it, the mode is called wet-#alting. On a small scale, the latter is most conveniently performed by rubbing the meat with silt, &c., as above directed and after it has lain a few hours, putting it into a pickle formed by dissolving 4 pounds of rock salt, 1 pound of sugar, 2 ounces of saltpetre in 2 gallons of water. This pickling liquor becomes weaker by use, and should therefore be occasionally boiled down a little and skim med, adding, at the same time, more of the dried ingredients.— American Agri cullurist.

EXPECTORANT REMEDY, tor

BEWARE OF CON SUMPTION!
HOW
many persons put off from time to time, that most important calling—attending to their health before it be too late. Look around us, patticularly in our city, and we will daily behold hundreds of persons, whose countenances bespeak suffering, with Disease of the Lungs, and a protracted cough, fast approaching their immortal destinations, without, perhaps, being sensible of their serious situations. May this warning awaken them in due season—and at once seek relief, which is to he found in. DR. DUNCAN'S EXPECTORANT REMEDY, a safe, pleasant and certain Medicine, for the cure of a Cough, and the premonitory symptoms that lead to CONSUMPTION. This medicine immediately heals the irritated Membrane of the Bronchi and Lungs, gives strength and support to the enfeebled frame, thus causing the lungs to throw off the viscid secreted matter, that accumulates and settles upon them.

cept these lines from one who has been spared from the famishing fangs of CONSUMPTION, by the timely use of your inestimable EXPECTORANT REMEDY. I had a call in your city in November last, during a severe cold and damp spell which caused me to takeit bad cold, alten ded with some fever. My throat became sore cough dry hard and obstinate, without scarcely any expectoration, pain and soreness in my breast at length sweating at night commenced, with much weakness and debility. During this time I used many medicines, several being high ly recommended in the papers, but they all tended to increase my sufferings, by binding up my system, and only giving temporary relief to my cough. Finding that my disease was assunting a serious and dangerous character, I began to be alarmed, and took the advice of one of our best Physicians. who at once recommended your ••EXPECTORANT REMEDY," and advised me to procure 6 bottles. I at once sent to your Cincinnati Office for them, and commenced using the medicine as soon as recieved. I fancied it gave me relief the first day. On the second day my cough felt much easier, and I began to throw up large quantities of phlegm and matter. On the sixth day my cough disappeared—my strength gradually incrersed, and at this present time am tiuly happy to state to you that I am rendered sound in health, and attend to my occupation as usual. CHARLES WILSON.

JUST ESTABLISHED.
undersigned, thankful for the very liberal patronage he has received, and anxious to merit and receive further favors, would say that he ia still manufacturing Wagons, Carts, Drays, and all kinda of heavy vehicles at short notice, and of the very best materials the country can furnUh— and his workmanship where known will speak for itself, and as it is the way he makes his living, he cannot afford to do bad work and use bad materials. Having been raised to the business ol Blncksmithing, snd depending on it for a support, I am always willing to work for any thing I agree to take, whether "calicoes or ribbons" or otherwise, and my work shall equal that of the biggest blower of the State. I have not tboughtof stopping to suspect or publish what others might or might not do, believing in the maxim, that the guilty too often cry "stop thief"! to direct attention from themselves, and knowing that "gaudy paint" is as creditable as a "whited sepulchre.''
I shall act upon the sudake with the farmer, mechanic, or merchant alike, and I promise them all, that when they bring me good stock, it shall not be changed in my shop for a worse article. iPlease c^Jl at the sign of "the man shoeing a horse,'' two squares south of the two spikhiko wheels, and near the market-bonse.
