ted••In consideration of the disastrous effects

produced by public violations of the Sabbath upon the moral character and, therefore, upon the good order, permanent liberty and universal welfare of society— and in view of the fact lhat sentiments similar to our own are extensively held in oiher portions of the country—we, not as sectarians or fanaiics, but as honest citizens, honestly exercising an undisputed right, and earnestly requesting those that differ from us, as they regard the highest interests of the country, to hear coolly, and judge fairly, do

Resolved, That when the anniversary of our national independence falls on Sunday, the celebration of thai day ou«jht to take pluce on the Saturday preceding or the Monday following and that it is a false view of pa^otism that would devote the Sabbath day to a political celebration.

Vermillion Whig Mcdinp. The Whiffs of Vermillion county held a niecling at Newport, on the 30th tilt. Owing to the shortness of ^notice, the high waters and extremely bad roads, the meeting was small.
