A NEW VIEW OF SPIRITS. Tho Brandon Miss.) Register re ports the following curious sermon, preached at the town of Waterproof*! not far from Brandon *1 may say to you rtv? breethring that 1 am not a educated man, an' I am not o' them as beieeves that education is necessary far a gospel minister, fur I be* leeve the Lord edecates his preachers jest arhe wants 'em to be etlecatecfTind although I say it that oughtn't to *ay it yet in the state of Indiany, whar I live, thar's no man as gits a bigger congrega tion nor what 1 gits.
Thar may be sum here to-day. my breetheren, as don't know what persua suio I am uv. Well I inay say to you, my breethring, that l'cn a Hardshell BjatNi. Thar's some folks as don't like the Hardshell Baptists, but I'd rather hev a hard shell as no shell at all. You see me here to-day my brethering drest up in fine close you mount think I was proud, but I am not proud my breethering, and although I've been a preacher uv the Gospel fur twenty years, and although I'm capiing of ihat flaiboat ihm lies at yure landing, 1' am not proud my breethering. 1 am not a gwine to tell you edzackly whar my tex may be found suffice it to soy, it's in the leds of the Bible, and you'll find it somewhar 'tween the first chapter of the book of Generations, and the last chapter of the book of Revolutions, and ef you'll go sarch the Scriptures, as 1 have sarched the Scriptures, you'll not only find my tex thar, but a great many uther texes as will do you good to read an' my tex, when you sfiill find it, you shill find it to read thus 'And he played on a harp uv a thousand strings—suerits of just men made perfeck.'
My tex, breethering, leaJs me to speak uv sperits. Now thnr'sa great many kinds uf sperits in this world—in the first place, thar's the sperits as sum folks call ghosts, and then thar's tho speriis uv turpentime, and then thar's the sperits as some folks call liquor, an' I've got as good an artickle uv them kind of sperits on my fiuibont as ever was foiched down the Mississippi river, but thar's great many other kind of sperits, for the tex sez 'He played on a harp uv thousand strings—sperits. uv just men made perfeck.'
But I'll tell you the kind of sperits as is ment in the tex, my breethring— it's hell fire and that's the kind uv fire a great many uv you'll come to, ef you don't do belter nor what you have been doin—for ''He played on a hnrp uv a thou-snnd strings—speriis uv just men made perfeck."
Now the different sorts uv fire in the world may he likened unto the different
fn
iersuasions of Christians in the world, the fust place we have the Piscupalions and they are high sailin' and a high falutin set, and they may be likened unto a turkey buzzard, that flies up in the air and he goes up and up, till he look no bigger than your finger nail, and the fust thing you know, he comes down and down, and is fillin' himself on the karkiss uv a deud boss, by the side uv the road—and 'lie played on a harp uv a thou-snnd strings—speriis of just men made perfeck.'
And then thar's the Methedis, and they may be likened unto the squirrel, runnin' up into a treo, for the Methedis believes in gwine on from one degree uv grace to another, und finally on to per fectsion, and the squirrel goes up and up, and up and up, and jumps from lim to lim' an' branch to branch, and the first thing you know he falls, and down he comes kerfiummux, and thut's like the Methedis, for they is alters fullin from grace, oh And—'• He played on harp uv a thou-sand sitings—speriis of just men mude perfeck.''
And then my breethering. thar's the Baptist, ah 1 and they have been likened unto a possum on a 'simon tree, and the thunders may roll, and the earth may quake, but that 'ere possum clings, there still, ah And you shake one foot loose and the other's thar, and you may shake all feet looso and he laps his tail around the lim', and He clings furever for—' 'He played on a harp uv a thou sand strings—sperits uv just men made perfeck.'

A New York correspondent of the Boston Journal snys: Mdlle. Rachel is leading a quiet life in New \ork she has thus far denied herself to all callers, and refused to bo introduced even to ''gentlemen of the press." She has appeared at the Jewish Synagogue once, and twice has rode down Broadway. Besides this all her movements have been hid from the public oye, except when she was upon the stage. She dines nt her hoenc in Clin ion Place at 4 P. M., and always has supper served to her family after the performances aro over. Her wardrobe is valued at $20,000, and ninety trunks •re needed for herself and her troupe her diamonds are valued at $60,000. She has two policemen in attendance at tho theatre to guard her treasures for some deceiving creature might think her to bo worth stealing, and if carried away boldly with her diamonds on, she
would be quite a prize! Though fur the present Rachel declines to sing the Marseilles Hymn, she will do so, soon she delays as long as she can, as the singing is a novelty and wjll attract, and when once sung she will be compelled to repeat it each night whik she tetnains But 1 am informed that she is far from being a good singer but the tnaunet her performance makes het irresistible in this famed revolutionary anthem, and creates a real tempest uf enthusiasm.
HORRIBLE SUSPICIONS.—A family residing in the neighborhood of Butcher's Eun, Allegheny City, on last Saturday night about 12 o'clock, were dreadfully alarmed by the distinct discharge ol what they supposed to be pistols or guns in the lower apartments of the adjoining house, (whose inmatSs had gone on a visit to the country fur a few days,) suspecting that burglars were at work, they kept watch all uight, and in tho morning upon reconnoitering, one of the f«malea discovered in the cellar something like clots of blood, when she screamed tor help and immediately fainted. Several other members of the family running tu her assistance found that it was only the result of two aeli'-sealing cans of tomatoes, that had been playiDg 'Pop goes the
Weasel.'

The Case of Naomi Wilcox.
The following highly interesting statement of the case of Miss Naomi Wilcox, well known for character and respectability to a large portion of the citizens of St. Lawrence county. New York, is truly worthy of attention and PO well authenticated that the' most skeptical must be at once satisfied of its correctness: To Dr Sittttyne, Philadelphia—
GOCVERNEUB, St Lawrence Co., N. Y.) December 16, 1854. 1 Dear Sir:—Having experienced very great
others. Moro than eight years ago I fell into a gradual Catarrhal. Consumption and notwithstanding the use of-many other remedies, I continued to grow weaker, and more and more disordered in my lungs and stomach Tintil myself and my friends despaired of my life. My digestive powers became so exhausted that I fotilo not bear the lightest kind of food, except in the mi hutest quantities. In this condition, at the request of my brother, I began to use your s?Kur. Almost immediately 1 derived great benefit from il. In less than three days after commencing the use of small doses, my stomach be^an to recover its natural tone and power -gradually every bad symptom began to give way. and in a few months 1 recovered to a state of comfortable, though not perfect health. I have no hesitathn in saving that to your 'WILD CHEERY' I owe, under God, the continuance of my life, and a degree of health far beyond my expectations. 1 have since had attacks ol the sgme old symptoms, but in every instance I have resorted with perfect success to the use of your medicine.
NAOMI* WILCOX.
GOUVERM-UR, N. Y., 16I!I Dec.. 1-54.
I certify that the above named Naomi Wilcox, is my sister. 1 have nursed and aitended her in all her sickness, and I know that the foregoing statement is correct. 1 have also administered Swnynes' Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry to other members of our family with uniform success and I have recommended it to sthers of my friends and neighbors, and have been often assured of its very great beneficialeffects, and in more than one instance to the saving ol life, as 1 be lieva. PANTHE WILCOX.
GOUVERNEUR, N. Y., 16th December, 1854-1 St Lawrence County. 1 It is hereby certified that the foregoing certificates were signed by the Misses Wilcox in my presence that they are intelligent and highly respectable persons that their reputation for truth and veracity is'lrreproachable.

Sir—The Cnerry Pectoral is much inquired after Several of ir best Physicians have used it, three of them in their own case nnd always with the happiest cflects. The numerous patent nicdiciiiet always before them, l«ad to incredulity in regard to evcrv new remedy and it is only after undoubted evidence of value in any article, that anything liko a general confidence can bo excited.
The unrivalled excellence of this combination of agents, [in the Cur.Rity PtxToitAL] proved beyond cavil bv repeated trial under their own observation, has compelled medical men to proclaim abroad its usefulness. It is beyond all doubt the best general remedy we have for the Pulmonary Aflvctionsol tinsclimato, atthesamo time a sedative and expectorant—a rare combination of properties.
In the hope that it will prove its own reward, 1 subscribe myself. Respectfully your ob't. serv't.
