CONSUMPTION.

Among the numerous discoveries Science has made in this generation to facilitate the business of life—increase its enjoyment, and even prolong the term of human existence, none can be named of more real value to mankind, than this contri bution of Chemistry to the Healing Art. A vast trial of its virtues throughout this broad country, has proven beyond a doubt, that no medicine or combination of medicines yet known, c4n so surely control and_cure the numerous varieties of pulmonary disease which have hitherto swept from our midst thousands and thousands' every year. Indeed, there is now abundant reason to believe a Remedy, has at length been found which can be relied an, to cure the most dangerous affections of the lungs. Our spacc here will not permit us to publish any proportion of the cures affected by its use, but wo would present the fol lowing: and reler further inquiry to my American Almanac, which the agent below named will always be pleased to furnish free, wherein are full particulars,, and indisputable proof of these statements.

Office of Transportation, Laurens S.C. August 4, 1853. J. C. AVER. Dear Sir,—My little eon, four years old lias just recovered from a severe attack of malignant Scarlet Fever, his throat was rotten, and every pereon that visited him pronoun ced him a dead child- Having used yourCHERtiv PECTOitAL in California, in the winter of 1850,for a severe attack of Bronchitis, with entire success, I was induced to try it on my little boy gave him a tea spoon full every three hours, commencing in tho morning, and by ten o'clock at night I found dccided change for the better, and after three days use, he was able to eat or drink without pain.

Its use in the above named disease will save many a child from a premature grave, and relieve the anxiety of many a fond parent. For all af fections of the Throat and Lungs, I believe it the best medicine extant. A feeling ol the deep est gratitude, prompts mo in addressing you these linos,—but for your important discovery, my little boy would now have been in another world.

I am yours, with great respect, J. D. POWELL, Sup. Tran., L- R. R. Rock Ilill,(SomersetCo.,) N.I.,July 21,'52. DR. C. A\£R,—Since your medicine has be come known here, it has a greater demand than any other cough remedy we have ever sold. It is spoken of in terms ol unmeasured praise by those who have used it, and 1 know of some cases where the best they can say of it, is not too much for the trood it has done. I take pleasure in selling it, because 1 know that I am giving my customers the worth of their money, and I feci gratified in seeing the benefit it confers.

Please send me a further supply, and believe me, yours with respect, JOHN C. WH1TLOCK. P. S. Almost any number of certificates can be sent you if you wish it.

Windsor, C. W., June 26, 1852.

J. C. AYEK—Sir: This may certify that I have used your CHERRY PECTORAL for upwards of one year and it is my sincere belief that 1 should have been in my grave ere this time if 1 had not. It has cured me of a dangerous affection of the lungs,, and I do not over-state my tonvictions when I tell you it is a priceless remedy.

Yours very respectfully, D. A. McCULLIN, Attorney at Law. Wilksbarre, Pa.September 28,1850. DR. J. C. AVER. My dear Sir,—Your medicine is much approved of by those who have used it here, and its composition is such as to insure and maintain its reputation. 1 invariably recommend it for pulmonary affections, as do many of our principal physicians. 1 am your friend,

MOST wonderful discovery has recently been made by Dr'. CURTIS, for the cure of Asthma,Consumption, Bronchitis,Coughs, Colds and all Lung Complaints, by Medicated Inhalation. Dr. Curtis's Hygeana.or Inhaling llygean Vopor and Chrrry Syrup, has accomplished tho most wonderful cures of Asthma and Consumption in the city of New York and Vicinity for a few months past, ever known to man. It is producing an impression in Diseases of the Lungs never before witnessed by the Me'dical Profession. [See certificates in hands of Agents.]

The Inhaler is worn on the breast, under (hp liucn, without the least inconvenience, the hent of the body being sufficient to evapornte the fluid —supplying the lungs constantly with a healing and agreeable vapor, passing into ail the air cells and passages of the lungs that cannot possibly be readied by other medicine.

Here is a ense: ASTHMA CURED. BROOKLYN, N. Y., Dec. 30.1853. For about ei^ht years I have been soverely aiUlcled with the Asthma for the last two years 1 have suffered beyond all my powers of description months at a time I have not been able to sleep in bed, getting what rest I could sitting in my chair. My difficulty of breathing, and my sufferings, were so great at times, that for hours together my friends expected each hour would be my last. During the past six years 1 hare had the aid and atteridanco of some of tho most cele-

brated physicians, but have received no perma

nent

benefit, and but little relief. I at length had

the time I first obtained it, 1 was suffering un-

I der one of my most violent attacks, and wns in

reat distress, almost &uffbca'ing for wnnt of breath. In less than ten minutes fiom the time 1 applied the Inhaler to my stomach, nnd took a teaspoonful of the Cherry Syrup, 1 was relieved in a great measure from the difficulty ol breathing and had a comfortable night. 1 have since continued it with the greatest possible benefit, nnd am notv comparatively well. God only knows the amount of suffering this medicine has relieved me Irom. My advice to the suffering is—^TOY IT jUARGARET EASTON.

CONSUMPTION CURED. NEW YORK, Dec. 27, 1853. I came to New York in the ship Telegraph my native place is St. John's, New Brunswick when 1 reached this city, my health was vcrj poor had a very bad cough, rnised a good deal of matter which was frequently mixed with blood bad pain in mv left side, nnd was very weak and emaciated. My friends and phvsician pronounced my case Consumption, and beyond the reach of medicine. I accidentally heard of Dr. Curtis's Hygeana.or Inhaling Hygeati Vapor and Cherry Syrup, and obtained a package, which I verily believe wns the means of saving my lifo. Soon after wearing the Inhaler, I found it relieved the pressure on my lungs, and alter a while the disease made its nppcarance upon the surface under the Inhnlcr. I look the Cherry Syrup as directed and continued to do so, mv cough gradually grow ing better, until it entirely left ine, ana I now consider myself cured. I still wear the Inhaler, as the use of it is rather pleasant, and believing it strengthening and purilyiug to the lungs, 1 feci unwilling ut present to dispense with it.

PR. SWAYNE'S

COMPOUND SYRUP OF

WILD CHERRY,

The Original and only genuind. "Cherry" Preparation. READ TIIIS CAREFULLY. Dr. SWAYS*-DearSir: MeeUt a debt ol grat'-1 llude due to you—and a duty to ihe afflicted generally, to offor my humble testimony in favor oft youi Compound .Syrup of Wild Cherry. Soms three years since, 1 was violently attacked with'' cold and inflammation of the Lungs, which was* accompanied with a very distressing cough, paini in the breast ond head a verv considerable dischorgeof offensive mucus from the lungs, esp«4 cially Ujioii changes of weather, however slight. At first I felt no alarm about my conditionTbut was pretty soon convinced ihnt I was rapidly going into consumption. 1 grew daily weaker, and at length wnsscnrcely able to walk about or speak above a whisper, such was the exceeding weokness of my lungs. During this time I hl9f tried various preparations and prescriptions, hut found no relief—growing all the time worse'. Just here 1 wns advised and persuaded by a deaf friend in Wilmington, to make trinl of your Syrup of Wild Cherry. I must confess that previously 1 had been prejudiced against patent medicines, and I am still against lhose coming outoi the hands of emperics, but understanding your cjjaims to the profession and practice ofn.ediciua, and having implicit faith in the saying of my friends, I forthwith purchased of Dr. Shaw, ono ol your agents, a few bottles and commenced its use. My disease was ot this time of 20 or 25 months' standing, consequently was deeply seated. I found, however, considcroble relief from1 the use of the first four or five bottles. But being a public speaker, I frequently attempted lo preach with my increasing strength and thereby ruptured those vessels that had already begun to heal in this way doubtless my cure was greatly retarded. In consequence of acting thus imprudently, I had to Ufc 12 or 15 bottles before'I was perfectly restored. I have no question, a much smaller number of bottles woujd have made me sound, but for the above indiscretion. (The Syru* allayed the feverished habit, did away the distressing cough, put a stop to thedischnrge of matter from the lungs, and gave them and the entire system good health. 1 have deferred offering this certificate till now for the purpose of being perfectly satisfied with the permanency of the cure, nnd now thnt I feel perfectly well.
