DEATHS JIF THJE LATB GEN. TATLO** FAMILY.—The New York Mirror, in recording tbe death of Col. Bliss, who fell a victim to yellow fever, at Pascog oula, on the 5th inst,, thus feelingly alludes to the occupants of the Presiden tial Mansion a few breif years ago: 'Only a daughter (the widow of Col Bliss,) of the victor at Buena Vista, of all his family who occupied the 'White House,' is left. What a startling change since the hour that saw the republican soldier borne by tho hurras of a grateful people from the field ot battle and peril, to him of undying fame and honor, to the highest seat of earthly power-— Then, all was life the proudest aspirations that could fire a mortal heart were fulfilled the loftiest ambition re posed satisfied under the shadow of goal reached ansolicited, a fame perfected without a blemish. General Tay I

lor and his wife, and Colonel Bliss then jlived: their present honerod and happy 'their past glorious, and their future bright. They are all dead. One link of ithe loving and beloved circle of that 'family group, on which the eyes of the nation rested with delight, remains.— She is, indeed, widowed and orphaned •—millions will share, though they may 'not lighten her grief.'

Read this Extraordinary Case. POIST OF ROCKS,

Frederick Co., Md. June 9th, 1852,

Dr. Swayn® —Dear Sir: Believing it a duty 1 owe to the public, and in justice to you, 1 have thought proper to make known one of the most extraordinary cures in my own case, thst has ever been truly recorded. In the month of October last, I was afflicted with a severe gathering in mv breost, which formed a large abscess, and almost communicated to my lungs, and very much afflicted them, and discharged large quantities of corruption, extertal and internal. My breath could also pass through my lungs and out through the cavity of my breast with apparent ease, attended with a violent cough, day and night, loss of appetite, and extreme debility, ao that my physician thought my case entirely hopeless, and beyond the power of medicine. 1 remained in this wretched condition for a long time, until I was wasted to S mere skeleton, and there seemed to be no hope for me but having read in the public papers of the many wonderfu icures performed by your

OMPOUND SYRUP OF WILD CHERRY, I immediately sent to Baltimore for five bottles, and commenced its use, and to my great satisfaction and the joy of my anxious family, the abscess or opening in my lungs began to heal, and the cough to subside, and on using ten bottles, 1 was restored to perfect health. 1 feel very grateful, and firmly believe that to your valuable medicine, under the Blessing of Divine Providence, I am indebted for this great change, and am hippy to say that 1 ant now enjoying as good health as eyer lldVQ* v* Ij /'••r -a

No teacher or parent Ebould be without tbe knowledge imparted in this invaluable work. It would save years of pain, mortification and sorrow to tbe youth under their charge."—PEOHJC'S ADVOCATE.

A Presbyterian clergyman in Ohio, in writing of "Hunter's Medical Manual," says: "Thousands upon thousands of our youth, by evil example and the influence of the passions, have been led into tbe habit of self-pollution without realizing the sin and fearful consequence upon themselves and their posterity. The constitutions of thousands who are raising families have been enfee* b.'ed, if not broken down, and they do not know the cause or the cure. Any thing that can be done so to enlighten and influence the public mind as to check, and ultimately to remove this wide-spread source «.! human wretchedness, would confer the greatest blessing next to tbe religion of Jesus Christ, on the present and coining generations.— Intemperance, (or the use ol intoxicating drinks,) though it has slain thousands, is not a greater scourge to the human race.
