SENATE.—Tbos. Eubank presented a petition rteking an appropriation to enable felm to test bis recently discovered paddle wheels.
Davis submitted a resolution calling for all farther correspondence relative to the fisheries, not beretofor communicated, which was adopted.
Milleroffered a resolution directing laquiry as to the propriety of recognizing the republic of Liberia.
Gwla offered a resolution directing an inquiry as to the propriety^of^ providing for iho appointment of an associate justice of the court of the UniterJ States for the district of Oregon and Colifor-
©ia. Tim Senate went into executive ses•ion for a short time, and subsequently the bill to establish a railroad from the Mississippi was taken up.
Mr. Brooks moved a substitute, proposing a contract with the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad company, lately incor porsted in New York for the construction of said road, which, after a debate, was laid aside.
HOUSE.—Mr. Dean received a' unanimous consent of the House to introduce bill to carry into effect the resolution passed in 1783—pioviding for a colossal ataiuo in the Washington National Capital. The provides for the appropriation of fifty thousand dollars for the statue and

The Pacific railroad bill was then ta ken up—postponed. Mr. Pettii, Senator elect from Indiana appeared and was'sworn.
Mr. Cass* resolution reaffirming the Monroe doctrine, and applying it to Cu ba, was taken up.
Cass commenced his address. It is very long—makes three columns.
(Sutler followed, endorsing gonerally Cass's views of the Monroe doctrine. Hale followed, repudiating the justice of intimidating Spain from selling Cuba, and said that if the doctrine was to be acted upon, let us commence by notifying England that she is not to sell Canada or any other of her posessions on litis continent to any but this Government—that Canada was of much more importance than Cuba.
