CHARLESTOWN, S. C. Oct. 18.

A severe gale prevailed on the Florida coast on the 9th. The Court House at Newport was blown down. The goods in the Custom House, were much damaged by the overflowing of the tide. The wharves at St. Mark's were injured. The damage done to shipping very extensive and many have been driven ashore. The light house and the Keeper's dwelling, at Breakwater, was washed away and not a boat is left on the beach. Wakulla and the Railroad bridges are destroyed, and the track washed away for half a mile. The cotton crop is ruined. There is not a bale loft, on an average, to ten acres. A large quantity of turpentine trees were destroyed in Tallahasa [sic], and the town greatly injured. Every store between the Capitol and the Court House is damaged, and the road blocked up with fallen timber. The storm was equally severe at

Apalachicola. The pilot boat Cypress sunk at the wharf and two men were drowned. A large number of vessels are ashore and several pilot boats upset, and a large amount of goods damaged. The steamer Palmetto is totally wrecked. ———

In Allegheny county, 39 districts, Hoffman, whig, 945 majority over Hopkins, Demcrat. There are sixteen districts yet to hear from, which gave Johnston last year 417.— For Supreme Judge—41 districts are heard from, which give Buffinglon, whig, 738 majority ever Woodward, Democrat. There are fourteen districts still to hear from, which gave Johnston 463 majority last year.

COLUMBUS, O., Oct. 14, 8 pm.

Ohio—26 counties, Whig gain over last year, about 7,000 Galloway beaten by Olds by 50 majority 6 members of Congress elected, Harlan, Corwin, Taylor, Ball, Campbell and Harrison. Two Freesoilers elected, Giddings and Wade. The Democratic State ticket elected, from 5 to 8,000 majority.

SANDUSKY, Oct. 14.

In Erie County, Saddler, whig, has 430 majority for Congress. County ticket equally divided. State ticket also divided.— Democratic candidate for Supreme Court and whig candidate for Board of Public Works 12 majority.

Huron county gives about 600 majority for Saddler, whig, and county and State whig ticket about the same.

CINCINNATI, Oct. 14.

Iliffdon, whig, for SherifFJJOO majority.— Harrison, whig, for Congress, Second District, 800 majority. Disney, Democrat, for Congress,First District, majority in the city

Later from Salt Lake and the Plains. INDEPENDENCE, October 15. Messrs. Stephen B. Rose, John C. Waddel, of Lexington; W. S. Price of Michigan, and one or two others, as also Mrs. Phillips of Michigan, reached here on yesterday from the Plains. Rose and Waddel are from Salt Lake, and the remainder of the party from California. Mrs. Phillips lost her husband on the way out to California this spring, and is now on her return home. The party bring but little news of interest from Utah. Business was recovering, and a brisk trade was springing up. All is quiet at Fort Laramie. They were in daily expectation of the arrival of Major Fitzpatrrick. The goods for the Indians had reached there, and large bands of Indians were in and around the Fort awaiting their distribution.

Capt. Thomas and the Pueblo Indians, Judge Houghton and party, are here and at Westport, and will leave for Santa Fe week after next.
