The second mate of the Atlantic stated that he saw the lights of the propeller about two minutes before the collision and put the wheel aport and was certain that if the pilot of the propeller had put her helm a port the same time the Atlantic would have cleared her. He also says that the Atlantic was within four miles of shore and that she was steered in that direction. He gives in detail the events of the disaster.

There is great excitement here and much indignation against the pilots connected with the steamer Atlantic. At a Meeting of the survivors, held to-day. a series of strong resolutions was adopted, condeming [sic] the effciency of the so called life-preservers and censuring the owners of the steamers for a deficiency of small boats; also, calling for the arrest of all the officers and men employed on the two steamers.

HOGS.—The Richmond (Ky.,) Messenger of the 13th says? Some 3,000 hogs were sold In this county the past and present week to Tennesseans at $4,50 gross. They drivo them to Tennessee to fatten, and thence tako them to the Southern market* The price in this region seems to be firm, with an upward tendency at these figures. A boy at Norwich is literally his own grandfather! it is in this wise: There was a widow (Anne) and her daughter (Jane.) and a man (George) and his son (Henry.) The widow married the son and the widow was therefore mother (in law) to her husband's father, and consequently grandmother to her o^n husband (Henry.) By this time she had a son David to wnoin she was great grandmother. Now, as the son of a great grandmother must be either a grandfather, or great-uncle, this, boy (David) was one or the other. He is his own grandfather.

A justice in Arkansas lately marfled a young couple, addressing the bridegroom as follows: "You, take this young woman, whom you hold by the right hand, to be your lawful wife, and you now promise to cleave unto her, and all other women, so help me God!"

The reasonable conclusion is when you meet an individual who takes you by the foot instead of the hand and congratulates you upon your marriage when every body knows you are a bachelor, that the aforesaid has lately laved hte guttural conduct with something besides milk. Who dissents?

The only point of importance stated by him was that, after seeing the Atlantic, if she had only given the necessary orders a few moments earlier, as might have been done, the collision could have been avoided.
