we frequently find some excellent thing!". Tho following is not bad: A shabby genteel man. in rusty black, «. presented himself at the bar, with ince frightfully scarified, and a very wo ful expression of countenance. He gave he following touching history of his misfortunes: "My name Is Mathew Anderson. 1 nm a dyer by trade, and do very good business. I began to set up for myself in the year 1836 and, as soon as it was known that I was getting along pretty well in the world, about forty girls, 1 suppose, seemed to be making a dead set at me—1 could have had my pick and choice of about as fino a lot of feminines as ever trod on shoe-leather.—
They were constantly running to my shop, on pretence of getting their ribbons, shawls, dresses, petticoats, and so forth, dyed and many a thing they got dyed that didn't want dying at all— all for the sake of throwing themselves in my way. But my heart was callous to all the assaults of Cupid though 6©me of the girls that ran after me this way, had lots of

Mr. A. having received instructions to the effect that this was a family affair, in which the city authorities hud no right to interfere, left the office with evident signs of discontent.
BOYS.
The Nashua Gazette thus daguerreotypes the "boy" of the preseut age All who read it will confess that it is the best likeness yet obtained: •'This has been termed the "age" of progress. The most striking exemplification ol the progressive tendency of the age may be found in boys from fifteen to eighteen or twenty years of age. The boy of fifteen and upwards must wear better broadcloth than his employ er, and boots to mutch. He gets the
Spring and Summer style of hats as soon as they come on from New York He wears dickeys of fabulous distentions. lie has his hair curled and unctified by tho most approved of barbers, lie would wear a moustache or imperial if he could. He has a "woman," whom he pays attention to. He sometimes carries a cane, about as large as your little finger, with a ball of lead ot the end. —He struts. He smokes. He chews He swears. IJe drinks. Of a fair Sunday he stands at the corner at the streets to show himself. He stays out all night or into the 'small hours,' sitting up with his 'woman,' or otherwise 'raising Ned' generally. He takes his 'woman' out to ride. During tho winter he goes to all the dances which comes off about every other night. He makes magnifi cent presents to 'woman.' Hs horse hire bill is as high as a milliot air's.— He reads nothing but the 'Pirate's Own Book,' 'Life in London,' and works of the 'yellow covered species

Some few weeks ago, I strolled into friend's counting room. He being abset I commenced a chat with his clerk, when a good looking 'culled pusson,' entered, doffed his castor, and said— "Mas' Bob, can you len' me a quarter till this art'noon, and I pay him, sartint"
Mas' Bob applied his dexter to his vest pocket but it made "no sign." 1 turned. "Well Buck, you look tolerable honost, but as I don't know you, if you will give me security, I'll lend you the quarter."
His eye brightened as ho asked— "Mas' Bob will go my s'curity!" Yes," replied Bob. forked over. Some time afterv. u»ds, wending the same way, as 1 was afoul to enter the office, the identical J.' jr.k stood before me.
Burk, where's my quarter! You didn't pay mo as you promised." '•No san! but I gif you s'curity!" "Well, but I want you to pay me—I lent you the quarter." "iiat's true, sah, but am the custom down here to 'zaust de s'curity fust." 1 left.—Spirit

fathers was worth twenty thousand dollars st the lowest figure. She was a prmty good-looking girl ,too, except that she was latne in one leg, and had an impediment in her speech. But 1 just ke(U nn KU»nrly and lint at girl ontild brag that she had made the least impression on me, till I was better than 40 years old, and that was about two years ago for you see I was afraid of them girls that seemed to be too willing and, as 1 was a quiet man myself, I wanted a wife that was just the same thing whereas tnost of the girls that hunted me up. looked like they might be tartar and brimstone when they choosc to show out. But there was one, named Mary Ann Green, that looked as mild as a new potato butter wouldn't begin to ir.elt in her mouth, I thought, though she wasn't worth a copper and had'nt a second suit to her back. So I tell madly in love with her, and married her before you could say "Jack Robison!"—and what do you suppose was the result?" —Pausing for a reply, and finding that his question was to abstruse for immediate solution, Mr. Anderson removed a handkerchief with which his tace was bandaged, and passing his fingers over several purple diagrams and lascerations of the cuticle he added,' skinned, sir, literally skinned! Her father was a currier, and this is the way she dsesses my hide! Before we were married three days, 6he had dropped the mask from her own face, and tore the best part of the skin from mine. Now, sir, 1 want to see if the law can protect me in my rights."

Elder Knapp, while preaching recently in Rockford Illinois, observed many of his congregation sleeping. He stopped in his sermon and requested the deacons to pass the contribution boxes, saying that he had learned that the society had not yet raised money enough to pay for the new bell, adding there were some there whom he knew would like to pay for their lodging the usual price was twenty-five cents. About forty dollars was raised. He then finished his sermon.

IUngo. of Graves Co., Ky., for the benefit sf mankind generally, do hereby certify, that on or about the 16th day of October, 1847,1 waa attacked with a very levere pain iu the Iow.t part of the abdomen, which lasted out a few minutes, and moved into the left hip, and continued exceedingly painful for about five days, during which time I had a very light fever. At the end of that dme the fever ceased, and the pain abated for a day or two, ifter which it again returned, and was much worse than oefore. During all tbts time I was under medical treatment. From a short time after I was taken, I was unable So walk or sit up tho hip in which the pain was so bod ommonced rising, until some time in January, when it ourst, and a number of pieces of bone came oat—as many 8 twenty, at least. Some of the pieces were three-fourths if an inch long. Some time after this, a hard knot appeared on my right bip, also one on my right wrist, and one on my leg, below my knee. I continued to get weak ind worse, and pain made its appearance in my right shoulder, and would move in my breast and stomach. At this time all persons gave me up to die. A physician then told me that, as a lost remedy, I had better use Mil. BULL'S FLUID EXTRACT OK SAHSAPARILLA. After Che use of the second bottle, the knot on my wrist commenced getting soft. I opened St, and a day or two after, piece of bone came out. My wrist soon got well, and I continued to gain strength. After 1 ised the third oottle, could get no more for some four 'weeks, after which time succeeded in getting three more bottles. After using the three Inst bottles, the knot on my hip became soft it was pened, and some corruption ran out, together with a imall picce of bone, and the sore soon got well, and the «not entirely dlappoarod. The sore on my leg also opened, ind apiece of bone came out. I continued the ase of the Sarsaparilla until I used twelve bottles, and am now mtlrely well, and able to do daily labor. It may seem strange to some, but I will here state that, during the summer of 1849,1 coughed up three pieces of bone, which san now be seen at the residence of my uncle, Thos. Neal, where I now live, and if any persons doubt this statement, I will bo happy to converse with them, If tbey will call on ne. Signed, THOMAS N. ItlNQO.
State of Kentucky. Graves Co., Set.
This day personally came before me tne undersigned, an tcting justice of the peace in and for said county, and made ath in due form of law, that the above statement is true. Subscribed and sworn to, this 15th day of Febrnary, 1850.
S. P. MORSE, J. P. for G. C.
I, Irwin Anderson, Clerk of the County Court of Graves bounty, State of Kentucky, do certify that S. P. Morse, whose name is signed to the above certificate, is now, and ras at the time of signing the same, a justice of the pcace, in and for said Orares County, duly commissioned and lualiSed as such, and that faith and credit are due all his fflcial acts, as such.
EDWIN ANDERSON.
Can the reader believe, after reading the description of ,he above numerous cures, that there is still a few human
wings, suffering with disease, that refuse to give Bull's iar«apnrilln a trial. irthefess, it is too true. What kind of testimony would it
It is indeed hard to beliere, but nev-
ake to convince the few remaining disbelievers, that Bull's ncdicine will do more oven than it promises? The doctor jould produce another and another cure performed by his nediclne but if the eases published above will not conrice tho sceptical, it is useless to produce any more, and, ndeed, it would oost a fortune to publish the many certlicates that have been showered on Dr. Bull. The largest nammoth sheet in America would not contain even the lames of those curod, lot alone full statements of their uises.
