STATE CUTTEH AKD JOI^EIt.
Machinc, jyln'ch received such favorable notice at the^nds of the Committefe of the late Ohio State. Fair, at Columhus, is a new invention, for which Let#rs latent have been Issued. In ils construction it is compact and strong, being made entirely of iron and steel, weiahinj? some three thousand pounds. In the rapidity of its ope* ration, the uniformity and smooth finish that it eives the Stave, adapting itself to either to a thick or thin bolt, it is altogetlier unequaied by any Stave Machine in use.
Either tl)6 rived or sawed holt may be used, the machine feedinsr itself after the bolt is placed on the carriage, until the entire bolt is worked into Staves, smoothly dreseed and jointed, ready for the tress hoop, and at the rate of 65 lo 70 per minute and if a machine is properly attended to, and kept a work, could cut 35 000Staves perday, of 10 bdurs lican with cose cut, dress, and joint ns many Staves, in one day, as one hundred men can set tip into lxirrels in the tame time. Any kind of timber that is fit for a Stave, may be used, even such kinds as could not be rived into Staves, and worked by hand. The cost of running the machine, carrying out and piling up Staves, &.c„ &c., need not exceed, if it equals 50 cents-pcr thousand.— One cord of rived bolts will turn out 2,000Staves costing not over $3 00 per cord, in a district where' timber is plenty. Upon this basis, one thousand Staves dressed and jointed, will cost but §2 00, and are. unsurpassed in uniformity of appcarance, smoothness of finish, and oilier general requisites, by anv Stave used, and at about one half the price ueually p^itl Jbr rougk&iaxea, •parrels'jnnde from Staves cut hy this machine, wil I commend themselves to Millers and Shippers, for their liniformity, smoothness And strength.— The machines are very substantially built, not easilyfmprcd or liable to get out of repair and any mechanic of tolerable genius, can soon learn to ruii feiie and as it not only cuts and dresses a Staveaerfectly, butjulntsit at the same operation, whicn no oilier machice in use ever undertook to do,) iree with confidcnte offer it to the^mblic, as the best Machine lor Flour llorreL or other slack work, ever used, and invite competition in the celerity of operation and quality of work.
The power required to drive them, is something less than the power for one run of mill-stones. (rrCost of Machines complete, ready for transportation, $275 00, independent of Patent Right which will depend upon the extent and value of territory conveyed. Applications for Machines and State or County rights, will be promptly attended to by the undersigned.
