EASX- MODE OF DIVORCE. The marriage contract is the mostsaered ^nown »o our Inw. Thoto who fenKwr upon it do it deliberately. The sev* ,*rm«nt of thai relation should not be permitted for trivial causes, at the opliop of either jJnrty. The extension of

Use causes of late years ha* become trip ia*. Parties intentionally avail them selves of the statutes in order io render themselves liable for a bill. There are ^IM*J two Slates where adulteries are the •ofo causes of divorce. South Csrolina and New York. In North Carolina ditwees arc permitted under no circumstances.

During the early period of the Mosaic dispensation all that was necessary to secure a separation was for the husband to say that he made no further claim to his wife. For five hundred years divorce was unknown in Rome, but subsequently it became common. Ail that the husband had to say to his wife, in order to secure an effectual dissolution of the mariage relation was, "Give me the keys out of the house." This secured a legal separation.

France had taught us a fenrfull lesson upon this subject. Within three months fter the new law of divorce was adoptthere were as many divorces as marriages, and in eiv cen months twenty thousand divorces were registered. Even In Connecticut, when the law of divorce was relaxed, applications for divorce multiplied rapioly.

De Tocquoville says of American women, that nowhere did the sex occupy a more elevated position than in the U. States and to nothing was to be attributed more directly than to our women the exalted character and stability of our institutions. And Mr. I), contended that this elevated character of American women might, in truth be attributed to the diffiulty of securing a drvorce, and to ^the strict veneration with which the

marriage

contract was held.

At one time in Franc® it was common for men to have a* many wives as ihey had years. A loarned author refers to an old soldier who, in eleven years, hod oleven wives. This was the result of the loose divorce laws o(^ France.—Detroit

A GREAT FORMER.

A London letter, of May 7th, says: William Threlfall, a cotton speculator in Livorpool, and a manufacturer, was arrested in that town last Friday, charged with extensive forgeries, principally on the Hull Flux and Cotton Mill Company. It is supposed that Threlfall's forgeries will amount to between sixty and seventy thousnnd pounds.— The loss will fall on firms and banks in London and Liverpool. Threlfnll had *cnt his wife and fomily to the United Siat«« before he was nrresied, nnd hod paid for his own passage in the Europa, but he did not depart by that steamer, as he wished to obtain further sums of mon«y on his forged drafts. Ho was considered wealthy person, and was the owner of soveral mills. Mr. Rylands, chief mnnuger for the Hull Company, deposoil at the examination of 1 hrelfall, at Livorpool, on Monday, that the company held securities of the prisoner to the nmount of five hundred and sixty thousand pounds. The prisoner is committed to take his trial s* the next Liverpool Assizes.
