During the session Mr. Ashman, of Mass., accused the Democratic party of
having entered into a written agreement
with the Free-sutler* to secure the elec
tion of Mr. Brown. This was iudig-] iintitlv denied by some »f the Southern

mitted by Mr. Brouu, that h^ had pro*!
inised Mr. Wilmot that certain commit-
tees should be so consiituted as to meetj the approval of Mr. Wilmot and his
friends. This caused much excitement..

hired to have their votes withdraw!!. The House adjourned amidst much
confusion. Neither party now has a

The clearing of a vessel from Cleveland for the Pacific coast is now matched
schooner Diamond, Capt. E. Stone, direct tor Havana! The Diamond is 100
tons burden, and is owned by Mr. W.T.
Richmond. Her masts have been pack-
ed away, and everything made snug for her canal trip across the prairie and river
voyage to the Gulf. She proceeds to
the Illinois, where she takes in a load
of corn for New Orleans, and thence sails for her port of destination—Hava
na. The Journal correctly says, "this
is a new era in Western navigation," and adds: "It will be a trial trip, which
if made in a given number of days, will
ensure her sale to gentlemen engaged in
