dftany Cultivator.

St AnUmn Work, Every cultivator of fruit, who expects ^10 keep up a supply, must occasionally .renew his plantation. Of some kinds, and more especially peaches, It will often be found both oasier and cheaper, 10 ^plaiJi young tre®§, thao to rotuttiUttie old one*.

Hardy kinds of fruit trees, a* th« ap pie, if set in autumn, will get an par* lier atari the next KOMOU, than by K« moval in spring. Iwt on and tttoiw soils, it ha* been &wt*d JecitWIv advantageous to set the tfr*es without digging any holes. The tree is set dit^ectly upon the rich and mellow surface, and the earth thrown upoti the roots so as thoroughly to cover them, and form a very broad nnd flat Mound of earth. This not onlv gives the foot* ft deeper toil, but it is nearly impossible for the water to accumulate among them. By throwing the furrows occasional! towards the row, the rising surface will be maintainod, and a furrow left between for drainage.

Trees of moderate size, with good

bro&d roots, with one years' shoots pro J'crly shortened hack, say about onenaif or two-thirds of each, will not often need staking very rarely, if a mound of earth is banked up a fool high round the trunk, till the tree is in leaf. But with large heads and bndly cut roots,. staking cqnnot be easily avoided.

iem way is to drive tho stake into the bottom of tho hole before the earth is thrown in, and subsequently binding the trefe with straw to the stake, so as to preclude tho possibility of chafing.

There are several oilier operations which the fruit cultivator must not forget before the winter sots in. Tender trees may be materially protected in some instances by circle of manure about their stems, the sonkingsof which! will only enrich the soil, till it is removed when warm weather approaches

Prepare for Winter.

Thdro is much to be done in the fall by every farmor, to render all comfortable through the winter. Sheds need repairing, or new one* should be built.— Apple*, potaioo* and garden vegetables need attention. If not already secured from frost, no time ought to be lost in protecting them from the same. Bank up ihe cellar, have a gnud supply of fire Wood under cover, and see that all sia ble# and ytml* are ready for use. RP member that to a considerable degree,! warm shelter for domestic] animals is] equivalent to food. If exposed to storms and severe Cold, they will need thirty per cent, more forage to carry them through till May than they will if properly housed and fed. In addition to this, their manure can be all saved and turned to a valuable account next season. Hy all means keep your dung heaps under shelter, that they may lose nothing by Icaching. Cattle, horses, hogs and sheep are most profitable, when one is sure that he saves from the possibility of loss all the matter voided by them in the course of the fa'l and winter.

The excretions formed by the consumption of 100 pounds corn, oats or hay, will add 1.50 to 200 pounds to corn, oats or hay crop of the next year, if skillfully managed. The first thing is to save and make all the manure which one reasonably can. and then study to obtain the largest practical gain from this raw material applied to the soil.— Not a year passes in which fertilizers worth several millions are not wasted in the United States. Think of these immense losses, and set a better example to your brother farmers. Demon-!f] straio to them that you save every pound of dung nnd urine that falls in your stables. yards and fields.

Make provision for watering stock conveniently, if your premises lack in that regard.
