^This distinguished statesman attend
ed the Agricultural Fair, held a few
days since at Norfolk, Va., and deliver
ed an excellent speech. He said many
good things. We give an extract from
a report of his speech:
Yet he would say, however, that there was one thing which had not been much dwelt upon here, that was of no little interest and importance. It was that the great practical truth and characteristic of the present age was, that great public improvements were carried out by means of voluntary association—of bringing minds together to act upon each other—was the great principle and truth of the age. Its germ, to be sure, was to be seen centuries ago, in the old world. ^It was to be traccd in the estfiblfshmeht cS" cities in the feudal age, it was stifl further extended in the professional associations of Europe at a subsequent period. But it has been long— both in the old country and in this—before the idea was brought to bear upon agriculture and the tillage of the soil.— The reason of this was obvious. Merchants, traders, and others congregating in large cities, could meet together at almost any hour—summoned by the peal of almost any bell—to interchange their sentiments on any topic of moment.
Not so with the farmers. They were scattered all over the country their labors wero mostly solitary, here upon the plains, and there in tho deepest recesses of the hills they had no Exchange, no Coffee House no Lyceum, where they could assemble together conveniently. Such, too, in a great measure, had become essejin \l that these annua! fairs should be held. Hence the necessity that they should be universally attended^—not so much for the sake of the exhibition or of any, discourses to be delivered, or lecture to be given—as fur the sake of interchanging sentiments,of comparing the experience of one with that of another, of mingling together and keeping up a communication of ideas Every man obtained a great part of whatever knowledge he might pussess by conversation and communication with others. Bouk.s indeed might do something In this respect, but nothing in comparison with free communication.
If wo should deduct from the aggregate of each man's knowledge whatever ho has learned by communication and conversation with his fellow man, very little would bo left—and that iittle not worth much ut best. It was intercourse with each that made men sharp, and active, and enterprising and therefore, if there should not bo, at any annual exhibition of an, agricultural association, a handsome pair of steers, or a likely cow in tho whole county—still if there were thu men assembled together in .social intercourse—then he said that thu exhibi

Hot VV'kathkh o.n thk Inhus.—The
Hints to the Bald-Headed.
Recording to the following extract
from an article in the Boston Medical
and Surgical Journal, the easy and sure
way to prevent baldness is to go bare
headed or wear a well ventilated hat:
A refined civilization has brought with it a train of physical evils, which it is in the province of science to control or subdue. Our tight haw, or warm rooms, cicely fitting cap®, silk night-caps, from which the perspirable matter cannot escape, by their Combined agency, in connection with other influences not always easy to define, bring off the hair prematurely, and turn it gray sooner than personal vanity is willing to exhibit such evidences oi decay. And this is not all the skin is actually in a low state of disease, the effects of which are recognised in the accumulation of drandruff—desquamation of the epidermis. The bulbs of the hairs are inflamed, also from the same cause, and from year to year the hair degenerates and becomes thinner, and not unfrequently ending in baldness. On all that part of the head not covered—viz: from the back side, between the ears and on the temples—the hair generally remains to extreme old age, however much the vortex may be denuded.
If females wore equally tight coverings, their hairs would probabiy suffer in the same manner but their light airy bobinets admits of ventilation, and hence a bald-headed woman would be a phenomenon. Who ever saw a bald-headed Indian? We have had an opportnnity of seeing various tribes, in alt the freedom of their unrestrained savage life— but a sparse head of hair we have never noticed. Atmospheric exposure conduces to the luxuriance of the hair and a healthful condition of the scalp.
There is another cause of the falling off, or rather the breaking off of the hair in combing and brushing, not the effect of disease at the root, but the destructive burrowing of a miscopic insect a living, invisible moth, eating its way from one stalk to another, like the Hessian fly in a field of wheat.
Mr. Kendall, of the N. O. Picayune,

It is well known that the Arabians are zealous students of botany, and the fertile and beautiful region which skirts the Desert abounds with rare plants and odorous woods, whence thev procure those gums and fragrant balsams of which this incomparable liniment is composed. It has accomplished the most extraordinary cures of rheumatism, one application removing the most acute pain, and a continued use effecting cures of cases of long standing and of the greatest severity. In loss ot power ot the limbs, or paralysis, it sti at the head of all remedies, restoring the limbs to persons who long were a burden to themselves and all others—numerous cases of which, wherein the flesh had entirely wasted away, leaving nothing but the dry skin on the bone and tho limb rendered useless and without feeling, this allpowerful medicine caused healthy flesh to grow and fill up the shrivelled part, and restored strength to the limb. Mr. II. G. Farrkm,: Dear Sir—Having in my lifetime owned many horses, 1 am pretty well ac'qunintod with the diseases they arc subject to, as well as the remedies usually applied, and must say that I never used or heard of any medicine tlint was half so good as your Liniment. 1 would recommend it with the greatest confidence to all who

accident, and thereby save tho life of many a valuable horse I have used it in the very worst cases of sweeney withentiresuccess alsosplint, sprains, bruises, palls, wounds, sore eyes, ike. Two most extraordinary cures I must mention in particular. I got up very early one morning, and on looking into my pasture discovered my favorite horse limp ing and dragging a rail after him. On going up close to him. to niy amazement and horror, the rail was sticking in his stomach, between the flanks, to the depth of eight inches, and so tightly that it took three hard pulls to extricate it after which the poor animal suffered the utmost agony. I never dreamed of his recovery, and supposed that no human hand could save him. The well known virtues of your Liniment (lashed on my mind, and it was immediately applied. By the next day I had the gratification of witnessing the commencement of his recovery, and in six days thereafter I rode him to Peoria, As sound as ever, and would not take $150 for him now. The other ease was this. One of my men got his leg in the teeth of a thrashing machine, and it won only by a miracle that he was not instantly killed. His leg was horribly mutilated, though no bones were broken. Your Liniment was applied, and in five davs ho went to work again. He fully befl lievcq that hut for your Liniment he would never have recovered. With every wish for the success of the Arabian Liniment, I am truly yours,
HENRYS. AIKEN.
Aiken's mills, near Peoria, March 1, 18-17. [Read the following extraordinary cure ot a spinal affection and loss of use of the limbs.l
Mr. H. G. Farreli,: Please send me by the bearer another dollar bottle of your Arabian Lini nient, which will be enough, 1 think, to complete ly cure my dear child. I nave often thoagbt that 1 would sit down and furnish you with an account of my poor child's situation, so that you might moke it public, and thus be the cause of as much benefit to some others of my fellow beings ash has been to me. She laid for six months without the slightest power or control of her limbs whatever, and suffered the most ogonizing pain the greater portion of the time. Even her neck was perfectly stiff, and so painful that she could not bear to have her head moved in the least. Thus was she for six months, during all which time we had to carry her about on a chair when she wiahed to change her place. We had three of the best physicians in tne whole country attending her, out they could do her no good. Finally, one of them (tne last to give her up) said he could do no more for her. and that, as I wished to get your Liniment, I could do so, adding that he knew it was good, and might help her. I got it accordingly, and she began to recover after a few applications. She can now uae al! of her limb* freely, and can walk tolerably well. We are now applying it over the spine, which the doctor# say is the seat ol the disease, and we expect one bottle more to rare her as well as ever she was. We have used it also for sprains, bruises, burns and cuts, with like success. Hoping that thisgreat remedy will be spread over the whole country. I am youra truly,
