thus sums up the manor of the reccm •ielection. How Stands the Loglstatnre?

This question meets us at every corner, and at almost every click of the Telegraph. We answer, then that—

The Senate consists of 36 members 16 of whom are Whig1?, 16 Locofocos, and four Free Soil. The free soil men are Messrs. Swift, Beaver, Blake, and Randall—the firstot whom was a Locofoco, and the three latter Whigs, before inoculated for freesoilry.—upon the Hamilton county question in ike Senate. we think the vote will be (exclusive of the Hamilton member) for recognizing the law, 18—for nullification, 17.

Th House consists of 72 members 31 of whom are Whigs, 33 Locofocos, 6 Free Soilers, and two Independent1?. The freesoiJers arc Messrs. Kr im and Ensign from Ashtabula and Lake, Patton from Clinton, Spelman from Summit, and Riddle ami Hutching from Geauga and Trumbull. Of these, Messrs. Ensign, Patton, Spelman, and, Riddle, were Whigs before taken of freesoilry, and Krutn and Hutchitis were Locofocos. The Locofocos will of course act after their former sympathies. There is no telling how the Whigs may act when ©nee estranged from a course of rectitude. The Independent9 are Messrs. Johnson of Monroe, and Minister of Butler, of whose predilections we know nothing, but presume them locofocoish. We undersand that Messrs. Krum and Minister ore pledged to recognize the Appointment Law. There will undoubtedly bo a majority in the House fuvorablo to amending the law so far as It divides Hamilton county.

Journal says The committee on slavery have agreed to report the provisions on that subject of the old constitution cxcept as to emancipation. They propose that masters •ball not emancipate their slaves upon the soil, but shall be bound to remove their emancipated slaves. This will tiearly put an end to emancipation for few slaves will bev willing to hove freedom on these terms, and few masters will compel their slaves to take freedom on terms that would make the boon an injurv the incorporation of the negro law in tho consiiiutioi,. Tho same committee is charged with the subjuct of the mode oi amending the constitution, but th^v are not yel prepared to report on that sub-

The city of the Mormons, and its vicinity, near Salt Lake, have twenty thousand inhaditats [sic]. The city is situated south of the Salt Lake, in a valley twenty miles wide, surrounded on three sides by tall ranges of mountains, capped with snow; on the fourth side is the lake.
