MIE great flood of 1847 will be long ren^fWlbared in many parts of the West. The swollen seemed to know no bounds but rising higher and higher carried dismay to the inhabitants. Merchants were obliged to remove their wares from the rivers' sidet to remoter places lamil irs were compelled to desert their dwellings', the poor suffered more severely than language can describe. The public authorities were called on to administer a*d and counsel. In short, a great public calamity had occurred.
Well would it be if the aad consequences ol the flood had eeased when the waters subsided- But no! CrTbe retiring waves left vast allavial depositee, which in a tew months must give out (hat deleterious miasm which produces bilious diseases
What says the celebrated Dr. Ferguson on this point? Answer: "The cause of bilious derangement has its principal source in half dried margins ef rivers." All history sod sxperience proves this theory. When the British army encamped on the plains of Estremadura, at a :ime when the river Guadiana had become dry after a flood, remit (^nt and intermittent fevers raged among the troop* with such destructive malignity that they came nigh being extirpated
E A E E N S E O A N
therefore, earnestly call the attention of the entire West to their moat extraordinary and celebrated series of Anti-Bilious Medicines. In any locality where there is the slightest tendency to any form ol Fever, Fever and Ague, Dumb Ague and the like, the inhabitants should at once send to the General Agen: of the district and h»ve a Graefenberg depot established near thera. Were this done and tbe Graefenberg Vegetable Pills and Health Bitten used according to directions, there would be no fear of bilious diseases.
So important are the Graefenherg Medicines to thepeopl^pf the West, thgt the following steps should helmmwtiately taken: 1st. Every neijrhborhoofshon!d have its Groefen berg Depot. By addressing the General Agent of any district this can be secured, 2d, Families should club together and get an immediate supplv. 3«1. Emigrant Societies and other philanthropic bodies should furnish them to the needy.
By such means bilious diseases will be entirely prevented. The other Medicines of the Company are most eminently adapted to the diseases for which they are recommended and consist of the-following—
The Graefenberg Eye Lotion, the Children's Panacea, the Green Mountain Ointment, the Consumptive's Balm, the Dysentery Syrup. )CrThe General Agent for Indiana is M. SEATON. Centreville, la., to whom applications for Agencies mav be addressed.
