ID the Sentte this morning, the Hon. Mr. Bradbury announced the d^aih of hit colleague, Mr. Fairfield, whereupon ihe customary resolutions were adopted, and Ihe Senate adjourned.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. In the House, Mr. Jonea, of Tenneaaee, offered resolutions instructing the committee on revolutionary pensions to inquire into the expediency of employing additional clerk* to attend to the applications for bounty land*.
No further busineaa of consequence was done, as the death of Mr. Fairfield was announced, aod after the customary pro ceedmgs were had, the House adjourned.

No business was transacted to the Senate to day, as this body was engaged in attending the fuoeral of the Hon. John Fairfield, of Maine, whose death was feelingly announced on'the day previous.

Mr. Sawyer, of Ohm. offered resofu tions which had in view the proper regit lating of trade between the Indians and Whites.
Mr. Smith, of Indiana, presented a petition praying for the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia.
Mr. Cabell, of Florida, moved to lay it on the table, which motion, after some discussion, prevailed by a majority of six. After the transaction of other unimportant business, the House adjourned.

In the Senate, a report was received from the Secremry'of the Navy, relative to the expenditures of appropriations made for the contingent fund. Also a report from the Secretary of the Treasury, relative to 'he public lands and the copper mines of Siult St. Marie.
Lewie Cass, of Michigan, from the Military committee, reported a bill relative to volunteers, and Mr. Atherton, from N. Hampshire, reported a House bill for subsistence appropriations.
Chester Aahley, of Arkansas, reported A
till for establishing a general pre-emp-tion law relative to the public lands. J. D. Wescott, of Florida, introduced a hill to increase the number of clerks in the Patent Office.
The death of Charles F.. Stoar:, mem* ber of Ihe I louse, from Michigan, was announced.
On motion, the Senate adjourned.

Several memorials and petitions wers presented when the Senate resumed the special order of the day,' being a bill for the purchase of the Madison papers, which *aa read the third time and paased, Yeas 2 2 N a 1 3
A resolution came up for consideration, requiring the *Var Department to report ihe number of troops in service, the num brr dead, &c., since the commencement of Ihe war, which was agreed to after a few words of explanation by Mr. Cass.
It was then moved to take up the bill for raising additional troops, and an interesting debate ensued, in which Calhoun, Rerrien. Hale and Mangum opposed the hill, and Cos# ind AHeti defended it* The Yeas *nd Nays being ordered on taking up, ii stood Yeaa 19, Nays 19. when the Vtc« President gave Ihe casting vow in the affirmative—bill lo b© taken up on Monday.
The Senate went into executive session. and after a short time opened the doors and adjourned.

Mr. of gin reported a bill for restoring ihe Southern Mail to the old route. This gnvt rise to a warm debate, which continued until a late hour when the House adjourned till Monday.

OBITUARY.
Died,on the 30th ult. Dr. EBENEZF.R DANIELS, aged 57 years. A long and intimate acquaintance with Dr. Daniels, whose death, our community has just been called on to mourn, has impressed the writer of this notice with a high appreciation of his general character. Gentlemanly in his deportment affable his manners generous in his feelings he was in the best sense of the term, an ««honest man.''
Dr. Daniels was a native of Massachusetts, where, having acquired a good classical education, he early applied himself lo iho study of Medicine.
He was always distinguished for his fondness for research and habits of industry, qualities. which soon secured for him an honorable gskdet in the profession he had chosen. Ardently, almost enthusiastically attached lo it he defended it with jrnlous care against the encroachments of empvriciam in whatever guise it presented itself. For more than a quarter of a century, he devoied himself lo ihe duties of hia profession with a zeal and skill, which promised bim an imperishable reputation.
As a friend the Doctor was conitant, devoted and disinterested. As a chris. tian hia character was adorned with enlorged benevolence, great tenderness of heart and exalted moral worth. To these attractive features of external religion, he added, before hi* death, ample testimony of hia entire reliance upon the provisions and promises of a crucified Redeemer.
